Covid-19 spreads strongly in the US and Europe, the world tries its best to contain the epidemic
The Covid-19 pandemic globally as of the morning of March 7 witnessed extremely complicated developments and an increasing trend, especially in the Americas and Europe.
On March 6, the number of deaths from Covid-19 in Italy skyrocketed, marking the largest increase since the virus broke out in the country. According to the head of the Italian civil protection agency Angelo Borrelli, on March 6, 49 more people died from the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in this country to 197. The total number of infections also increased sharply by 778 cases, bringing the number of infections to 4,636, ranking fourth globally. Mr. Borrelli said that the average age of deaths from the virus in this country is 81 years old.

In France, nearly 200 new cases were reported overnight, bringing the total to 653. Germany also saw hundreds of new cases, with the total number of cases now at 670. The UK has also just confirmed its second death, among 163 positive cases of Covid-19.
As of the morning of March 7, the US confirmed 310 cases of the new coronavirus in 23 different states, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said. Compared to the figures from the evening of March 6, there were 74 new confirmed cases. The number of infections includes 21 cases from the Grand Princess cruise ship currently quarantined off the coast of California, US Vice President Mike Pence announced.

Among the infected cases in the US, 16 people have died, according to CNN statistics. On the morning of March 7, US President Donald Trump also went to Georgia to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.
In the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has just announced 15 new infections via the Ministry of Health's Twitter channel, bringing the number of infections in the country to 29. In Iran, more than 1,200 new infections were recorded in just 24 hours, the largest increase since the virus broke out in the country - Iran's Ministry of Health said on the evening of March 6. Currently, the number of infections in Iran is 4,747, ranking third after China and South Korea, with 124 deaths.

South American countries such as Peru, Costa Rica, and Colombia are the latest to receive their first cases of the virus, as the disease shows signs of spreading rapidly in Latin America. Brazil's Ministry of Health also announced five new cases in the country, bringing the total to 13. Argentina also reported six new cases, all of them people returning from Europe. In addition, the West African country of Togo also recorded its first case of infection.

On the evening of March 6, as the number of global infections surpassed 100,000 with more than 3,300 deaths, the World Health Organization (WHO) urged all countries to make containing the spread of the virus their top priority. The UN agency stressed that the fight against the pandemic requires countries to work together, and praised Iran for putting in place a “full-force” response to the outbreak.
“We continue to recommend that all countries make stopping the spread of the virus their highest priority,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed.
