Aviation Department fires employee who leaked customer information

October 6, 2017 06:17

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, a number of aviation industry employees and airline ticket agents were fired or had their contracts terminated when they were discovered "selling" customer information to taxi companies and hotels.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that the phenomenon of leaked passenger information began appearing in 2013 and continued in 2014 and 2015 when passengers flying to Cam Ranh and Noi Bai International Airports received text messages inviting them to use taxi services.

The airlines have reviewed their reservation systems to determine the cause. The results show that the information was leaked because some employees of the airlines and airline ticket agents provided passenger information to taxi companies and hotels that solicited passengers to use their services via phone numbers.

Airlines have requested cooperation from the police to investigate and verify, and have initially discovered and handled violations by dismissing a number of employees and terminating airline ticket agent contracts.

Recently, the leakage of passenger information has continued to occur, causing inconvenience to passengers as well as affecting the quality of passenger services in the aviation sector.

Therefore, the Department said it will inspect the security of passenger information of Vietnamese airlines in October 2017 and recommend that the Ministry of Transport consult with the competent state agency to approve the granting of network information security to Vietnamese airlines for the reservation and ticket sales system and will coordinate with the police to handle administrative and criminal cases of those who illegally buy, sell, exchange, and use passenger information.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requests that air passengers cooperate and immediately notify the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, regional airport authorities, airports, and airfields via hotlines of information such as incoming phone numbers, locations, locations, and taxi companies in case they receive marketing services related to their air travel.
