(Baonghean.vn) - With the spirit of "fighting in wartime, contributing in peacetime", in recent times, the Veterans Association of Nghi Trung commune, Nghi Loc district has promoted its core role in implementing models to ensure security, order and traffic safety, bringing about practical results.

Building traffic culture

Arriving at the gate of Nghi Trung Primary School before rush hour, we saw that the veteran force of the commune was there in time to guide and help parents stop their vehicles in the right place, neatly lining up on both sides of the road, avoiding causing chaos and traffic safety in front of the school gate.

Mr. Hoang Van Thao in Hamlet 1, Nghi Trung Commune said: Before, at the end of school hours, the area in front of the school gate was very chaotic, motorbikes were parked on the road, causing traffic congestion. However, the presence of veterans made things more orderly, and parents were also aware of parking their motorbikes neatly to avoid traffic jams.

According to Mr. Dang Van Binh - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Nghi Trung commune: "Maintaining traffic order and safety in front of the primary school gate is carried out by the War Veterans Association branches in turns (3 people per shift) with the hope of regulating traffic to help clear the road, and making it more convenient for parents to pick up and drop off their children after school.

At the same time, through the model, it helps raise awareness among students and parents about obeying traffic laws, building beautiful traffic culture and ensuring aesthetics, security and order at school gates.

Mr. Binh also said that not only ensuring traffic safety at school gates, some branches also implement a model of ensuring traffic safety at railway crossings, which is recognized and highly appreciated.

Having said that, he took us to "witness" the traffic safety work of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 4. From afar, we saw the Association President Nguyen Van Vinh, 78 years old, wearing a red armband, propagandizing and reminding a young man riding a motorbike without a helmet. When meeting us, he smiled kindly and shared: "Sometimes I feel sad because there are many cases of arguing and harsh words when being reminded for speeding, reckless driving, even crossing the railway when the barrier has been lowered... However, we veterans often tell each other to promote the spirit of serving the community, building a culture of safe traffic, then everyone will understand and share."

It is known that this is an inter-commune road that crosses the railway, near the school. Before the barrier was installed, there was an accident every few months, including fatal accidents. Therefore, the Veterans Association of Hamlet 4 built a model and assigned healthy and enthusiastic members to take turns on duty at this point to guide traffic participants to ensure traffic safety. Since the barrier was installed, the veterans are only on duty during rush hours in the early morning and after school hours, thereby contributing to limiting accidents.

Many good models and methods

With 10 branches and 531 members, in recent years, promoting the exemplary role of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the movement "War veterans ensure security, order and traffic safety" has been widely deployed by the War Veterans Association at all levels of Nghi Trung commune. Along with traffic safety models, up to now, the association at all levels has built and maintained the operation of 10 self-managed security and order teams, contributing to ensuring peace in villages and hamlets.

For example, in hamlet 8, the population is large, the area borders 3 communes, there is an inter-commune road passing through, so the security and order situation is potentially complicated. Faced with that situation, the Veterans Association of hamlet 8 coordinated with the police force to set up a security patrol team to maintain peace in the hamlet. At the same time, signed a cooperation agreement with the Pastoral Council of Lang Nam Parish to promote solidarity between Catholics and non-Catholics, mobilizing people to build cultural villages and build new, advanced rural areas.

Or in hamlet 9, the Veterans Association with 56 members has launched a model to ensure security, order, fire prevention and fighting. Accordingly, in addition to 4 self-managed teams on security and order led by veterans who regularly coordinate to carry out night patrols, the Veterans Association also coordinates with agencies and units located in the area such as the District Political Training Center, the National Reserve Warehouse; gas stations... to effectively implement the fire prevention and fighting model with the motto "4 on-site".

Talking about the pioneering and exemplary role of the veteran force in ensuring security and order and traffic safety in the area, Mr. Phan The Hung, Secretary of the Nghi Trung Commune Party Committee, said: In the past time, the Veterans Association has done a good job of grasping the situation, especially in areas prone to security and order hotspots, promptly advising the Party Committee and authorities and coordinating with departments, branches and organizations to effectively resolve issues arising in the commune, contributing to stabilizing security at the grassroots level. In particular, up to now, the whole commune has 3 Veterans Association branches (including branches of hamlets 5, 8 and 10) that have signed a cooperation program with the Pastoral Council of parishes. In particular, the Commune Veterans Association has coordinated with the Pastoral Council of Lang Nam Parish to build a parish model to ensure security and order, contributing to building a strong political system in the parish area.

Mr. Dang Huu Men - Chairman of the Pastoral Council of Lang Nam Parish, who is also a veteran, said: The cooperation program between the Nghi Trung Commune Veterans Association and Lang Nam Parish has been implemented for nearly 10 years. The Commune Veterans Association regularly meets with the Parish Pastoral Council, parishes and security teams to exchange information and content related to security and order work. From there, consensus is created, and coordination is joined to ensure security and order in the commune and parish. Thanks to that, life is peaceful, social evils are reduced, especially dog theft - which used to be a prominent problem in the area, has almost completely disappeared.

Through the models of ensuring security and order and traffic safety that the Veterans Association at all levels in Nghi Trung commune has implemented, many good practices and advanced examples have emerged, creating a spread to the community. A typical example is the Hamlet Chief, Head of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 2 Ha Viet Thuan (70 years old), a type 1 war invalid but still enthusiastic about the work of the hamlet and the people. In 2022, Mr. Thuan was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee for his many contributions to building and protecting the Party, protecting the government, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the province. Or Veteran Tran Ngoc Son was selected to report on typical security and order work in the village and hamlet and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee...

According to local government leaders, the exemplary role of war veterans in Nghi Trung commune is not only reflected in the movement to ensure security and order, traffic safety but also in activities to educate revolutionary traditions; propagate, mobilize, and reform backward youth, those who have completed their prison sentences to reform, integrate into the community and in the construction of advanced new rural areas.

In 2022 alone, the Nghi Trung Commune Veterans Association coordinated with the police force to build 2 veteran models with the work of ensuring security and order, traffic safety. At the same time, 4 meaningful works and tasks were carried out, including: Renovating 100 billboards and posters to propagate people to strictly comply with the Party's policies, State laws; and local regulations, hanging on the main roads of the commune, worth 10 million VND.

Taking care of the stele house and the martyrs' cemetery memorial of the commune. Leveling rocks and soil, pouring fertile soil to build flower beds for 150 flowers under the Lagerstroemia and Bauhinia trees from National Highway 48E to the commune center with a length of more than 700m. Mobilizing members to contribute more than 30 working days with a total amount of nearly 5 million VND to renovate and upgrade the traditional medicine garden of the infirmary to meet standards. These projects are of great significance to join hands and contribute with the local government to complete the criteria for building a commune that meets advanced NTM standards by the end of 2022.
