The A(H7N9) flu epidemic in China is developing complicatedly in 13 provinces and cities with a sudden high number of cases and a high mortality rate (about 40%), including Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, which are places with a lot of trade and tourism exchanges with Vietnam. In the past 2 months alone, 340 cases have been recorded in China (this is the 5th outbreak since 2013).
More dangerously, most cases have a history of exposure to live poultry at poultry markets or to environments contaminated by infected poultry, so the possibility of the disease entering our country is very high.
The Department of Health's official dispatch requires all medical units in the province to implement the following contents: - Closely monitor at border gates (Vinh airport, Nam Can, Cua Lo port) all cases of people entering Nghe An from epidemic areas; promptly detect passengers with fever, suspected of having infectious diseases, organize medical examination, isolation and treatment according to regulations. - Medical centers and health stations of communes, wards and towns in the province closely monitor cases of patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome, pneumonia patients at medical facilities in the area, especially those with a history of contact with sick or dead poultry, and those who have recently traveled to or come from epidemic areas... - Prepare materials, chemicals, human resources, and disease prevention equipment to promptly support localities in implementing measures to handle outbreaks. - Coordinate with relevant departments to strengthen surveillance and early detection of outbreaks of influenza A(H7N9, H5N1) in poultry. - Medical facilities are ready to admit, quarantine, and treat patients according to the Ministry of Health's protocol to limit deaths. Strengthen supervision and inspection of food safety for poultry and poultry products in the province, especially smuggled poultry and poultry products that are not quarantined and of unknown origin on the market. - Strengthen propaganda activities to guide people to take disease prevention measures such as: limit contact with sick and dead poultry and poultry waste; regularly wash hands with soap or common disinfectant solution; only eat poultry and poultry products that have been thoroughly cooked; do not eat blood pudding, do not use poultry and poultry products of unknown origin; advise people traveling to and from areas with avian influenza epidemics to proactively monitor their health for early detection and timely treatment to limit fatal complications. |
