African swine fever: Quy Chau outbreak recurs, Ky Son adds new commune
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, on June 14, Nghe An had two more mountainous communes testing positive for African swine fever: My Ly (Ky Son) and Chau Phong (Quy Chau).
Quy Chau epidemic recurs
On June 14, Quy Chau district had a recurrence of African swine fever in Lau village, Chau Quang commune. Worryingly, in Lau village, there were 2 households with the disease, Lo Van Chanh and Lo Van Nam.

Previously, on May 17, the People's Committee of Quy Chau district announced the end of the epidemic in Chau Binh commune. Thus, after receiving the positive test results of the Veterinary Department of Region III in Lau village, Chau Quang commune, the People's Committee of Quy Chau district had to re-announce the African swine fever epidemic.

Mr. Le Hai Ly - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quy Chau district said: Immediately after receiving positive results for African swine fever in Lau village, Chau Phong commune in the late afternoon of June 14, the District People's Committee announced the decision to declare African swine fever in Quy Chau commune.
On the night of June 14, the district directed local authorities and specialized agencies to destroy the infected pigs. However, through inspection, it was found that, in addition to the 2 households that tested positive, there were many pigs from 7 other households in Lau village that were sick, so they asked for permission to destroy all of them, with a quantity of 27 local black pigs, each weighing nearly 30 kg.

Quy Chau district has provided Chau Phong commune with 2 tons of lime powder and 50 liters of chemicals to prevent the epidemic; at the same time, Chau Hoan commune, which borders the epidemic, has provided 5 tons of lime powder and 20 liters of chemicals to prevent the epidemic. The district has directed the establishment of 3 epidemic control checkpoints in Chau Phong commune and 1 checkpoint in Chau Hoan commune.
Ky Son commune, the 14th epidemic
According to the test results from the Veterinary Department of Region III, the outbreak of African swine fever in My Ly commune, Ky Son district occurred at the household of Mr. Moong Van Long in Huoi Pun village. On June 13, the commune veterinary took samples, and on June 14, the results were positive.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hieu - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Ky Son district said: My Ly is a border commune, far from the district center, so the work of preventing, fighting and controlling the epidemic is very difficult. The district has supported the locality with 1 ton of lime powder and 22 liters of chemicals along with sprayers, so the locality is proactive in epidemic prevention work.

The District People's Committee directed My Ly commune to urgently establish a steering committee and deploy epidemic prevention solutions as per the prepared scenario. Especially, it is important to promote the work of setting up checkpoints and being on duty at checkpoints.
My Ly commune is the 14th locality of Ky Son district to have African swine fever: Muong Tip, Huu Kiem, Bao Thang, Bao Nam, Keng Du, Na Loi, Ta Ca, Nam Can, Pha Danh, Chieu Luu, Muong Ai, Bac Ly Tay Son and My Ly./.
