(Baonghean.vn) - With its unique architectural and sculptural art, the Doan family temple in Long Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district is one of the few family temples in Nghe An province recognized as a Historical - Architectural and Artistic Relic.

The Doan family temple is located in the center of Giap Ngoi hamlet, Long Thanh commune. It was built by the descendants of this family to worship their ancestors - the predecessors who had great contributions to the homeland and country. The temple consists of 3 buildings: lower, middle and upper halls with a layout in the style of "front Nhat, back Dinh", in which the lower hall with 3 compartments and 2 wings built during the Nguyen Dynasty is the most elaborately designed work.

The wooden frame is made of ironwood, beautifully carved.

The two middle trusses are designed in the style of "Upper gong price, lower beam". The trusses as well as the purlins, necks, eaves... are all carved with unique patterns.
The roof trusses are designed in the style of "upper rafters, lower rafters". On the rafters are elaborate carvings of a tiger's face holding the word "Longevity" quite uniquely.

On the eaves are carved many traditional themes, such as "four sacred animals, four seasons", most typically images of carp transforming into dragon, phoenix holding a letter, dragon horse river map... Ancient artisans were very skilled in openwork and channel carving techniques to create unique and vivid works of art.

The central house is a 3-room, 2-wing house designed similar to the lower house. The upper house is a 2-room house located vertically, inside many wooden structures such as roof trusses, eaves, etc. are beautifully carved. The Doan family temple in Long Thanh is considered a typical work of architectural and artistic value in Yen Thanh.

Historically, the Doan family temple was granted royal decrees by Vietnamese feudal dynasties. The temple still preserves a number of ancient artifacts, including the royal decree of King Quang Trung (in the photo). During the Nghe Tinh Soviet years, the Doan family temple was a secret meeting place for revolutionaries; during the resistance war, it was a place to hide weapons of the army. With many great values, the Doan family temple was recognized as a provincial-level Historical - Architectural and Artistic Relic in 2016.
