(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 20, on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2021), a working delegation of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province came to offer flowers and incense at the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery.

Comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee led the delegation. Also attending were leaders of the Provincial Party Committee Office, Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Anh Son district.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Thong and his delegation offered flowers and incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs Cemetery in Anh Son town.

The cemetery was built in 1976 on an area of ​​nearly 7 hectares and is the largest cemetery gathering the graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fought and died in Laos. This is also the only cemetery in Vietnam named after two countries and two peoples, Vietnam and Laos.

Since its construction, the cemetery has received and cared for nearly 11,000 remains of martyrs from Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Bac Giang... who died on the battlefield in Laos and were brought here to rest. The Vietnam - Laos Martyrs Cemetery is a symbolic work of the loyal and steadfast solidarity of the two brotherly nations.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee visited and encouraged veteran Le Tien Dung, born in 1947, currently living in village 8, Tuong Son commune (Anh Son).

Mr. Le Tien Dung is a war invalid with a 32% disability rate and receives a chemical agent benefit. He himself suffered a stroke.

They have three children who are now all married and living on their own. His family and children are all active members of local movements such as: building new rural areas, supporting physical education and sports movements.

Comrade Nguyen Van Thong and his delegation visited Mrs. Nguyen Thi Chau, born in 1933, currently living in village 6, Tuong Son commune (Anh Son), mother of martyr Bui Cong Sinh, who enlisted in the army in August 1978 and died on January 14, 1987 in Cam Pot province, Cambodia while pursuing the remnants of Pol Pot's army.

At the families he visited, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Thong expressed his gratitude for the great contributions of individuals and families to the cause of national liberation, national reunification and the noble international duty; encouraged veterans and mothers of martyrs to take care of their health and build a prosperous life with their children and grandchildren.
