Using metal detector to find car and two missing Border Guard officers
While on a flood prevention mission in Thanh Hoa, two border guards were swept away with their car by floodwaters and have been missing for six days. Initial information has found one of the two bodies of the Border Guard soldiers who were swept away by floodwaters while on a mission to help people fight floods in Lang Chanh district, Thanh Hoa.
On October 16, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command said that the search for two officers of the Yen Khuong Border Guard Station who were swept away by floodwaters along with their car is being carried out along the banks of Bon Stream and Am River, stretching about 60 km.

More than 400 people divided into small groups, walking along the river and streams, turning over tree roots and rocks. Because the Am River, through Ngoc Lac district, had high water levels, with some places being more than 10 meters deep, the rescue team encountered many difficulties. Engineers were using metal detectors to search for cars swept away by the flood.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, Chief of Office of Lang Chanh District People's Committee, said that the rescue team had just found the clothes and wallet of Lieutenant Colonel Cao Dang Cuong, political commissar of Yen Khuong Border Guard Station. Some pieces of metal and plastic believed to be from the crashed car were also found scattered along Bon stream.
“The shirt, still with its name tag and military insignia, was found 3 km from the Bon stream spill site, while the pants were found 5 km downstream. They were caught on a tree and buried in mud,” said Mr. Son.
Mr. Cuong's wallet also contained many personal documents such as ID card, driver's license, health insurance card, military ID card and some money... The wallet was found in the victim's pocket.

According to Mr. Son,The flood water of Bon stream - where the two officers had an accident - has receded, and many sections can be waded across.“The most worrying thing is that the victims were buried in the rocks or swept away…”, Mr. Son said.
At 6:45 p.m. on October 10, Captain Nguyen Thanh Chung and Lieutenant Colonel Cao Dang Cuong, political commissar of Yen Khuong Border Guard Station, drove a car to perform flood prevention duties as directed by the agency. When crossing the Bon stream, due to a landslide, driver Chung was unable to handle the situation in time and both the car and the person were swept away.
