35 meter road in Vinh city seriously degraded
After 6 years of use, the 35 meter road in Vinh City has seriously degraded.
Danger lurks
The 35m road is over 8km long, connecting from National Highway 46 to the Lam River road, passing through localities including Hung Hoa, Hung Loc, Nghi Duc and Nghi An of Vinh City, and is a vital traffic axis with heavy traffic. Construction began in 2016 and phase 1 was completed in 2018 with a total investment of 62.7 billion VND. The road was expected to open up opportunities for urban renovation, attract investment and improve people's lives.

However, over the past year, the road has become a hot spot for traffic safety. According to the reporter's observations, the road surface has deep depressions and many potholes, especially at the intersections with Nguyen Phi Y Lan Street (Nghi Duc Ward) and Provincial Road 535 (Hung Loc Ward). In some places, the road surface has sunk more than 10cm deep, creating bumpy "potato beds", making road users frustrated.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huan, a resident of Nghi Duc ward, was upset: "In the past, when the road was newly built, everyone was happy because it was convenient to travel and easy to do business. But after only a few years, the road has now seriously deteriorated, it is dusty in the sun and flooded in the rain. Especially if you drive into the ditches in the middle of the road without holding firmly, you will fall easily. I have witnessed many falls here."

According to local residents, the deterioration of the 35m road is due to the sudden increase in traffic volume in the past few years. In particular, trucks carrying materials, tractors, and even inter-provincial passenger buses are constantly "plowing". The road surface, originally designed for phase 1, cannot withstand the heavy load, leading to increasingly serious damage. Many accidents have occurred, including at "black spots" such as the intersection of the 35m road with Le Quy Don street or the intersection with Vinh - Cua Lo avenue...

Nghi Duc Ward authorities said that the deterioration of the road has been evident for about 2 years now and is also a hot issue that residents often raise in meetings. The ward has also sent many documents, recommending that the city invest in upgrading and repairing this road soon. Most recently, on February 17, the ward continued to send a document to the city.
How will the 35 meter road be widened?
Faced with the deterioration of the 35-meter road in recent times, the Vinh City People's Committee has assigned the Vinh City Investment and Construction Project Management Board to coordinate with relevant units to survey and propose solutions to upgrade and expand the road.
Investing in upgrading and renovating the route will ensure traffic, lighting, drainage, environmental sanitation, and modern, civilized urban beautification.

According to the plan, the project's construction area has a starting point at the intersection of National Highway 46; an end point at the intersection of Lam River Road (Chu Huy Man Street), Vinh City; the route length is about 8.3km. According to the approved zoning plan of wards and communes, specifically: The section through Nghi An commune is about 1.1km long, the red line is 35m wide; the roadway is 15m wide; the sidewalk on each side is 10m wide. The section through Nghi Duc ward is about 2.5km long, the red line is 35m wide; the roadway is 15m wide; the median strip is 4m wide; the sidewalk on each side is 8m wide.
The section through Hung Loc ward is about 2.1km long, the red line is 35m wide; the roadway is 15m wide; the median strip is 4m wide; the sidewalk on each side is 8m wide. The section through Hung Hoa commune is about 2.6km long, the red line is 54m wide; the main roadway is 15m wide; the median strip (separating the main road and the service roads) is 5.5m wide on each side; the roadway on the service roads is 9m wide on each side; the sidewalk on each side is 5m wide.
The items to be invested include: asphalt concrete road surface; median strip; sidewalk paved with imitation stone bricks; curbs, concrete ditches; synchronous investment in rainwater drainage system, lighting, trenches, technical pipes, and other technical infrastructure systems along the route; relocation and restoration of existing works. Expanding Rao Dung bridge ensures the cross-sectional scale according to the approved zoning plan of Hung Hoa commune...

Mr. Nguyen Sy Dieu - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee said: In February 2025, the city submitted a document to Nghe An Provincial People's Committee proposing an investment policy for the project. The investment form includes renovation, upgrading combined with new construction, expected to be arranged in the Public Investment Plan with provincial budget capital for the period 2026-2030.
While waiting for the province to approve the policy, the city will direct functional forces and local authorities to increase patrols and control of heavy vehicles traveling on this route, minimize degradation, and study the arrangement of additional speed limit signs and warnings for people traveling here.
