According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:00 a.m. on September 21, Vietnam time, was 3,684.59 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 32 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,445 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 117.5 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Currently, the domestic gold price is about 15.5 million VND/tael higher than the world gold price.

World gold prices rose sharply and are on track to record a fifth consecutive week of gains. The market is closely watching for signs that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may continue to cut interest rates, after they made the first cut of the year.

According to many experts, domestic gold prices are awaiting the impact of upcoming new management policies. These policies include ending the monopoly on the production of SJC gold bars, researching the establishment of a gold trading floor, and applying a tax on gold purchases and sales.

One factor of concern is that imposing personal income tax on gold trading could cause domestic gold prices to fluctuate strongly.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Huan from the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that currently, investment channels such as real estate or stocks are all subject to tax. Gold is also a profitable channel, so taxing profits from gold is appropriate.

According to current regulations, real estate transfer tax is 2% on the transaction value, and for securities it is 0.1% on each transfer. This tax calculation can be referred to and applied similarly to gold.

Mr. Huan also pointed out the need to distinguish between pure gold and jewelry gold. He questioned whether wedding gold rings, which are considered jewelry, are subject to tax? And are gold transactions used for wedding purposes subject to tax? These issues need to be clarified and carefully studied before being put into specific policies.
