According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:00 p.m. on September 18, Vietnam time, was 3,665.5 USD/ounce. This afternoon's gold price increased by 1.04 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,445 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 116.8 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of gold bars is 14.9 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
World gold prices set a new record yesterday when the US Federal Reserve (Fed) announced its decision to lower the basic interest rate by another 0.25%, bringing the interest rate down to 4 - 4.25%.
However, this increase did not last long. After only a few hours, the price of gold reversed and fell when the USD rebounded. The reason is that the Fed will only cut interest rates once more in 2026, instead of many times as previously expected.
According to analysts, the drop in gold prices immediately after the news of the interest rate cut is not too surprising. Because the market often operates on the principle of "buying rumors, selling facts".
In the run-up to the Fed’s decision, expectations of a rate cut were already priced into gold, causing prices to continue climbing. When the official announcement was made, many investors rushed to take profits, causing gold prices to fall.
In the short and medium term, experts predict that the world gold price will fluctuate between 3,600 and 3,900 USD/ounce. The development depends largely on the global geopolitical situation and the Fed's monetary policy.
