Director of Nghe An Department of Health explains the reason for the low rate of 4th dose of Covid-19 vaccine

However, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, the rate of Covid-19 vaccination for people aged 18 and over in Nghe An as of August 9, 2022 is still low (27.1%).

Explaining the low results of the fourth Covid-19 vaccination, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh - Director of Nghe An Department of Health said: For those aged 18 and over, Nghe An has covered the basic vaccination rate of over 100%. Recently, with the amount of vaccines provided, Nghe An has prioritized reviewing and covering the first booster shot (shot 3), the rate of shot 3 is among the highest in the country (reaching 99.5%). Therefore, the amount of vaccine for those receiving the fourth shot is still limited.

In the most recent vaccination batch on July 14, 2022, with 184,860 doses of Pfizer for the group aged 12 and over, this number of vaccines was used for both the first and second doses for the group aged 12-17 and the third and fourth doses for the group aged 18 and over... Nghe An vaccinated all the vaccines immediately after deployment.

In this August 2022 plan, Nghe An has proposed that the Central Government provide 202,373 doses of vaccine for people aged 12 and over and 76,752 doses of vaccine for children aged 5-11. However, up to now (August 9, 2022), the province has only received 70,200 doses of Pfizer vaccine for people aged 12 and over.

Realizing that Nghe An needs vaccines soon to cover the 4th dose for people in the coming time, on August 4, 2022, the Provincial Center for Disease Control sent Document No. 717 to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology requesting an additional 132,372 doses of Pfizer vaccine for adults and 76,750 doses of Pfizer vaccine for children. Currently, Nghe An is waiting for the approval of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology. When the vaccines are available, they will be received, distributed and deployed immediately.

Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh stated: In the coming time, when receiving the vaccine, Nghe An will make efforts to carry out vaccination quickly, safely and effectively to achieve a high rate of 4th injection. In addition, the province will also continue to review the number of subjects in need of 4th injection to closely match the actual situation of the locality and the issue of population mobility in the area.
