Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh - the most outstanding medical work in medieval Vietnam

(Baonghean.vn) - This is a famous medical book series by Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac - a famous physician who made great contributions to Vietnamese traditional medicine.

Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac is a famous physician who made great contributions to traditional medicine, including traditional medicine, successfully inheriting the career of "Southern medicine to treat Southern people" of Zen master Tue Tinh. He left behind many great works such as: Hai Thuong y tong tam linh consisting of 28 volumes, 66 books distilling the quintessence of traditional medicine, considered the most outstanding medical work in medieval Vietnam and the books Linh Nam ban thao, Thuong kinh ky su which not only have medical value but also have literary, historical and philosophical value.

Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh is a series of heartfelt teachings about medicine, a famous medical book by Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac.

Realizing his responsibility for the future of medicine in his country and for protecting people's health, in 1760 Lan Ong opened a medical training class. He exchanged experiences in disease prevention and treatment with his colleagues, and gathered folk experiences to understand the relationship between climate, weather and diseases in our country.

He recorded medical records to learn from the curable and incurable diseases. Over nearly thirty years, he summarized the essence of Chinese medicine and traditional ethnic medicine, compiled the "Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh" book consisting of 28 volumes, 66 books including theory, method, prescription, medicine and dialectical treatment of internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, measles, ophthalmology, traumatic medicine, emergency, etc., medical ethics, hygiene and disease prevention.

His book "Y tong tam linh" is highly appreciated at home and abroad. This book marks a new step forward in the career of Vietnamese traditional medicine, contributing to the construction and development of our country's medicine.

The book series Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh was first translated by Hoang Van Hoe and published in the North before 1970 (except for the books Mong Trung Giac Dau, Van Khi Bi Dien and Bao Thai Than Hieu which have not been printed yet).

Now the Institute of Traditional Medicine has spent many years revising the previous translation, improving the translation quality and the Medical Publishing House has decided to republish the entire book Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh in order to contribute to the implementation of the policy of inheriting traditional ethnic medicine of our Party and State.

Le Huu Trac's real name was Huan, his given name was Can Nhu, his pen name was Que Hien, Thao Am, Lan Ong, his nickname was Chieu Bay, born on December 11, Canh Ty year (1720) in Van Xa hamlet, Lieu Xa commune, Duong Hao district, Thuong Hong prefecture, Hai Duong town (now Lieu Xa commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province).

However, most of his life (especially from the age of 26 until his death) was spent in his mother's hometown Bau Thuong village, Tinh Diem commune, Huong Son district, Duc Quang prefecture, Nghe An town (now Son Quang commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province). He was the seventh child of Doctor Le Huu Muu and his wife Bui Thi Thuong. He passed away on the 15th day of the first lunar month of the year Tan Hoi (1791) in Bau Thuong, (now Son Quang commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province), at the age of 71.
