Nghe An: Launching Thanh Mai Intellectual House in Thanh Chuong district

On the morning of November 15, the Wisdom House Program and the Humanitarian Bookshelf in collaboration with the People's Committee of Thanh Mai Commune, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province and sponsors organized the launching ceremony of Thanh Mai Wisdom House.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Department of Continuing Education - Ministry of Education and Training, Nghe An Provincial Association for the Promotion of Education, Nghe An Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Provincial Farmers' Association, Vinh University, Institute of Lifelong Learning, Thanh Chuong Association of Southern Region.

On the side of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, there were Mr. Trinh Van Nha - Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the District People's Committee, representatives of Thanh Mai commune leaders, Board of Directors of Thanh Chuong 3 High School, Dang Thuc Hua, students and local people.

Thanh Mai Wisdom House was born thanks to the support of resources including money, time, and effort to build facilities and books from Colonel Bui Van Quy - Deputy General Director of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation, an outstanding son of Thanh Mai - Thanh Chuong hometown, from the Thanh Chuong Association in the Southern region, the Humanitarian Bookcase program and the local government and people.

Specifically, Thanh Mai Wisdom House received 50 million VND to build facilities, a library, a 55-inch TV and 726 books worth 55.5 million VND.

Speaking at the ceremony, Master Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Institute of Lifelong Learning affirmed: “The birth of Thanh Mai Wisdom House today is the result of deep trust, effective cooperation and companionship of the local government, the Thanh Chuong Association of Southern Region and Colonel Bui Van Quy personally. We hope that Thanh Mai Wisdom House will learn many experiences from Wisdom Houses in other localities, at the same time promote the specific advantages of its locality to operate effectively, thereby serving as a model to spread to other cultural houses in Thanh Chuong in particular and Nghe An province in general".

Dr. Le Thi Hang - Deputy Director of the Department of Continuing Education - Ministry of Education and Training also said: "The launching ceremony of Thanh Mai Wisdom House is an important event, marking a new step in development in education and lifelong learning in the locality".

A representative of the Ministry of Education and Training commented that the House of Wisdom is a creative and meaningful model. This house carries within it the aspiration to connect knowledge, promote creativity, and is a clear demonstration of the Ministry of Education and Training’s commitment to promoting lifelong learning, an important policy in the national education development strategy.

Mr. Trinh Van Nha, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong District shared: "In Thanh Chuong, the system of Wisdom Houses in schools has been operating very well for many years. Now we continue to build and develop Wisdom Houses in cultural houses and Thanh Mai commune is among the leading localities in this".

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Van Quy, the main sponsor of the project, shared: “I decided to bring the project back to my hometown with the wish that all students, teachers and local people will have the best space for self-study, reading, lifelong learning to develop themselves and continue to return to pay tribute to build an increasingly rich and humane homeland.”

The Compassionate Bookcase and the Wisdom House are two philanthropic programs in the fields of culture and education, focusing on creating, maintaining and developing communities of reading, self-study and lifelong learning completely free of charge. The program has been awarded Awards and Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (2020) and by the Minister of Education and Training (2024). In October 2023, the two programs were awarded the Literacy and Knowledge Dissemination Award by the US Library of Congress, in the category of "Excellent Practice".

Up to now, the Humanity Bookcase has mobilized and donated, building a network of more than 25,000 bookcases (more than 1.5 million books) in more than 3,200 schools and residential communities in all 63 provinces and cities of the country and some provinces in Laos. The House of Wisdom has built and maintained more than 300 lifelong learning spaces in 17 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 5 other countries (Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US).
