Greedy for 10 million VND, young man receives bitter ending

On January 11, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Truong Duc Thuan (born 1989), residing in Dien Xuan commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "Storageillegal drugs

According to the case file, around the beginning of June 2020, Truong Duc Thuan was hired by a man named Duong to transport drugs from Que Phong district to Dien Chau district for a fee of 10 million VND. Thuan agreed and got the phone number of the drug delivery person from Duong.

On the morning of July 9, 2020,drug traffickingcalled Thuan to inform him that he had the “goods”. At 2:00 p.m. the same day, at Truong Banh intersection, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, Thuan received 30 packages of drugs with a total weight of 554.21 grams from an unknown man to take to Dien Chau district. When Thuan was moving to Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district, he was caught red-handed by the police.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, fatherless, and mother old and sick, to ask for a lighter sentence.

Considering the defendant’s actions as dangerous to society. In this case, the defendant also had some mitigating circumstances such as: repentance, honest confession, grandfather had contributed to the revolution. Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Truong Duc Thuan to 20 years in prison for “Illegal possession of narcotics”.

Regarding the man named Duong, the investigation agency has issued an emergency detention order for Nguyen Dinh Duong (residing in Dien Ky commune, Dien Chau district). However, Duong is not present in the locality, and his whereabouts are unknown. The police agency has announced a search and is currently continuing to verify and clarify.
