(Baonghean.vn) - In recent times, Vinh General Hospital has been a pioneer in effectively applying many minimally invasive intervention methods, with many outstanding advantages; meeting the need to improve the quality of treatment of urinary tract stone diseases, bringing maximum benefits to patients.

Effective application of many minimally invasive intervention methods

Currently, Vinh General Hospital performs 5-7 minimally invasive interventions every day, with many different methods, with outstanding advantages compared to open surgery. Thanks to that, the treatment effectiveness for cases with this disease is increasingly improved.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Tho (57 years old in Hung Nguyen) is one of the patients who was effectively treated with minimally invasive intervention methods at the hospital. Having suffered from right ureteral stones, during a time of colic pain in the lower back, he had to be hospitalized. He was examined by a doctor, performed paraclinical tests, and diagnosed with right kidney stones. Doctors applied the method of endoscopic surgery to lithotripsy right kidney stones through the skin using a small tunnel to treat the patient.

Accordingly, instead of a 20cm long incision, a small incision of about 0.5cm is made. Through that incision, the doctor will insert an endoscope through the kidney and then crush the stone with laser energy. Compared to open surgery, in addition to limiting pain, blood loss, and quick recovery, the biggest advantage of this intervention method is to limit damage and preserve kidney function after surgery. Only 3 days after surgery, the patient's health was stable and he was discharged from the hospital.

Also with symptoms of colic pain in the right flank, patient Le Ba Thang (41 years old, Vinh City) was hospitalized, and doctors performed paraclinical tests, diagnosing stones in the middle third of the right ureter. The patient was indicated for endoscopic retrograde right ureteral lithotripsy. Accordingly, doctors inserted the stone along the natural excretion pathway, into the ureter and crushed the stone with laser energy. After 2 days of surgery, the patient recovered and returned to normal activities.

Dr. Tran Duc Trong - Head of General Surgery Department, Vinh General Hospital said: "With the orientation of developing the field of urology, since 2015, Vinh General Hospital has pioneered the application of percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a small tunnel, which has now become a routine technique at the Hospital. This method is a "gold standard" for treating large and complex kidney stones, such as: coral stones, kidney transplant stones, urinary system malformations such as horseshoe kidney, ectopic kidney... Next, the Hospital deployed a number of other minimally invasive intervention methods in the treatment of ureteral stone diseases, larger than 2cm in size, to ensure patient safety such as: retrograde nephrolithotomy, flexible endoscopy and retroperitoneal endoscopy,...
