Effectiveness of cucumber growing model in greenhouses in Yen Thanh

Since the end of 2017, with the help of local authorities and a capital support of over 100 million VND from Yen Thanh District People's Committee, Mr. Tran Duy Trung has boldly invested in renovating the land in Trieu Canh field to build a model of growing vegetables in greenhouses using hydroponics with a total investment of 1.7 billion VND.

Mr. Trung said: The land is planned to build 3 greenhouses with an area of ​​over 4,000 m2.², which is divided into areas for growing melons, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, and vegetables. Growing vegetables and melons using this method minimizes pests and diseases, and the crops give high yields.

The greenhouse garden system is quite modern, invested with a drip irrigation system, equipped with smart devices such as setting parameters for light and temperature to help plants grow quickly.

Mr. Tran Duy Trung added: After more than 3 months of production, the crops and vegetables have yielded good quality, with melons yielding 4 tons of fruit per 1,000 trees. The output is quite good because over 1,000 m²Hydroponic vegetables are imported and sold to neighboring communes and the kindergarten system of 2-3 communes.

Cucumbers and melons are also sold to wholesalers in the area. Thus, if production is favorable and output is stable, this model of growing vegetables and fruits in greenhouses will generate an income of 500 - 600 million VND/year, creating stable jobs for 6-8 workers.

Another good news is that at the end of 2018, Mr. Tran Duy Trung's model will be able to borrow nearly 1 billion VND with preferential interest rates from capital sources through the "channel" of the Youth Union. Through that, Mr. Trung will have the conditions to expand the scale of production, find outlets for products in supermarkets and large cities to increasingly increase income.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Head of Yen Thanh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development added: Up to now, in addition to the two models of greenhouse vegetable and fruit gardens in Tan Thanh and Hong Thanh, the district is currently building another greenhouse model in Bao Thanh commune. In the integration trend, vegetable and fruit producers need to change their production mindset towards safety, in order to compete fairly in the market and ensure safety for consumers in the long term. Therefore, the district is continuing to encourage people to join ventures and associate to build models of greenhouse vegetable and fruit gardens with high-tech investment. In the coming time, the district will combine capital sources to support funding for greenhouse models to operate more effectively.
