More than 1,160 new public vehicles were purchased in one year.
The state budget spent nearly 1,223 billion VND to purchase cars for official duties, general work and specialized vehicles in 2016.
The Government has just sent a report to the National Assembly on the management and use of State assets in 2016. Accordingly,The total number of public vehicles increased by 2,166, one and a half times compared to the same period in 2015, including new purchases, receipts and transfers between units. The original value of assets was recorded at VND 2,015 billion.
Of the total number of vehicles mentioned above, the total amount allocated to the Central sector is 1,158 vehicles, with an original price of 1,194 billion VND. The local sector is 1,008 vehicles, equivalent to nearly 821 billion.
Explaining the increase in the number of newly purchased public vehicles, the Government's report said that of these, more than 1,000 vehicles were received and transferred between units, agencies, and organizations with a total original price of more than 792 billion VND.1,164 new vehicles were purchased (32 official vehicles, 181 general vehicles and 951 specialized vehicles) with a total original price of nearly 1,223 billion VND. On average, 3 new official vehicles are purchased every day with an average price of more than 1 billion VND.

"The purchase of new public vehicles is mainly to equip units and agencies that do not have cars or specialized vehicles and to replace vehicles that have expired," the Government report stated.
Along with the new purchases, state agencies also reduced 2,085 official vehicles in 2016 due to recall, transfer, sale and liquidation... with a total original price of nearly 1,100 billion. Therefore, by the end of 2016, the whole country had 37,286The total cost of the project is nearly 24,000 billion VND, accounting for 2.3% of the total value of state assets.
The Government's report also said that current official vehicles are divided into 3 groups: 860 vehicles for official positions, 21,114 vehicles for general work, and 15,312 vehicles for specialized purposes.
According to the report, most public vehicles have been used for more than two-thirds of their prescribed time. The number of vehicles used for more than 15 years (exceeding the depreciation period according to the regime) is currently about 8,710, accounting for more than 23% of the total vehicle fund.
Besides, although the original price of nearly 37,300 cars is nearly 24,000 billion VND,However, the actual remaining value according to accounting books is only 7,435 billion VND, equal to 31% of the total original price.
Continuing the National Assembly's policy of limiting the purchase of new public vehicles, the Government's report on state assets also confirmed that there was no budget allocated to purchase expensive cars and equipment.The purchase of new official vehicles in 2016 will only be carried out after ministries, branches and localities have completed the review and arrangement of existing vehicles for general work and have sent a document to the Ministry of Finance. The Government also develops a plan to allocate official vehicles reasonably according to standards and norms for a number of positions as prescribed, ensuring reasonable use and no surplus.
