Workers gathered to strike outside the workshops of Matrix Vinh Company Limited. |
On the morning of October 1, more than 2,500 workers out of a total of more than 3,400 workers of the Company participated in the strike. At 10:00 a.m., the Board of Directors coordinated with the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union to organize a dialogue with the workers.
At the dialogue, 12 complaints and recommendations were made, in which the main contents that caused outrage were: The norm for workers is too high, especially for apprentice workers; Lunch allowance of 12,000 VND/meal is too low, it is proposed to increase it to 15,000 VND/meal; Some supervisors yell at and insult workers; Timekeeping machines are few and operate slowly, causing many workers to have their attendance allowance deducted because they have not had time to swipe their cards; Toilets are cramped and dirty, workers' drinking water is not guaranteed...
Matrix Vinh Co., Ltd. belongs to Matrix Corporation (China), specializing in the production of teddy bears and toys for export. The company currently has more than 3,400 workers, mainly female. This is the third strike at the company. The previous strikes took place in 2009 and 2012, involving between 2,000 and 3,000 workers. |
Responding to workers' complaints, the Company's Board of Directors representative said: The current quota cannot be called high, because according to the Company's summary, every month 85% of workers are rewarded for exceeding the quota, while according to the regulations, if 2/3 of workers meet the quota, it can be applied to all workers.
Regarding the increase in meal allowance from 12 thousand/meal to 15 thousand/meal, the Company representative initially said "we have contacted the General Company in China, however, that side is on a 1-week National Day holiday so it has not been resolved yet".
However, later, in response to the workers' protests, this representative said that he would increase the monthly food allowance to 80 thousand, but it would not be included in the food ration but in other expenses.
Regarding the issue of the supervisor insulting workers, timekeeping machines, toilets, drinking water, etc., the Company representative said they will rectify it as soon as possible.
However, many workers did not agree with the answer of the Company representative and at 12 noon the same day, there were still many workers gathered in the Company premises.
Nghe An Newspaper will continue to inform about the above incident./.
