More than 350 martial artists compete for the national Vovinam championship
(Baonghean.vn) - To celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Vovinam Viet Vo Dao sect (1938 - 2018), on the evening of October 25, at the Nghe An Sports Training and Competition Center, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the opening ceremony of the 24th National Vovinam Championship 2016.
Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Director of the Department of High Performance Sports, General Department of Sports and Physical Training; Mr. Ho Mau Thanh - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; representatives of leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of provinces and cities across the country.

At this year's tournament, athletes compete in two categories: martial arts and combat, competing for 48 sets of medals.
In the martial arts event, male and female athletes competed for 22 sets of medals in the categories of women's single, men's single, women's double, men's double, men's multiple, women's multiple, and women's self-defense; in the combat event, athletes competed for 26 sets of medals. Of which, men competed in the weight categories under 45 kg and the weight categories from 48 to over 92 kg. Women competed in the weight categories under 42 kg and the weight categories from 45-70 kg.

The 24th National Vovinam Championship 2016 is an important assessment to re-evaluate the training and practice of Vovinam in localities, and at the same time is an opportunity to select outstanding faces for the national Vovinam team, preparing to participate in international tournaments. The tournament also aims to mobilize the masses to regularly practice and compete in Vovinam Viet Vo Dao, contributing to improving community health.
The tournament is expected to end on October 29.
