Hung Nguyen: Focus on environmental treatment in heavily flooded areas

(Baonghean.vn) -In the past two days, as the water receded, people focused on cleaning up trash, cleaning the environment, and treating water sources, to gradually stabilize their lives.

During the recent flood in Hung Nguyen district, 29 hamlets were deeply flooded, of which 9 hamlets were isolated; more than 1,600 hectares of crops and fish of the third crop were lost, 3,500 poultry were swept away, 10 km of canals were eroded, and 5 km of roads were damaged.

After the flood, hundreds of tons of mud and garbage were concentrated in the communes of Hung Trung, Hung Yen Bac, Hung Yen Nam, Hung Nhan, Hung Chau, Hung Loi, Hung Lam... In addition, waste and dead livestock and poultry polluted the environment and water sources. Therefore, environmental sanitation and water source treatment are always the top concerns of local authorities and people.

In Hung Trung, the flood caused over 2 billion VND in damage. This is the most seriously flooded area in Hung Nguyen, and the water did not recede until October 21. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh's house in Hamlet 8 was flooded more than 0.5 meters deep, and nearly 100 chickens died. "My family cleaned up as the water receded, and today we still have to clean the gate, alley, and clean the roads in the village with the neighbors," said Mrs. Thanh.

Along with cleaning their houses, Hung Trung residents clean up their gardens, collect waste in canals, ponds, clear water flows and treat water sources. Mr. Nguyen Ha Ky - Hamlet 8, Hung Trung Commune - Hung Nguyen said: "After several days of cleaning, the village road is now tidier and cleaner."

For the 1,440 flooded wells and water tanks of local residents, the health station also instructed people to use chemicals to treat the water. Currently, the health station has been provided with 35 kg of Chloramine B to treat water for households whose wells were flooded.
