We were at the house of Ms. Tran Thi Viet (born in 1973, Phu Tho hamlet, Luu Son commune, Do Luong) on ​​the afternoon of September 16. Here, we witnessed and heard the rare story of Viet jumping into the river.

According to Mr. Le Huu Quang (born in 1968), Ms. Viet's husband, at around 12 noon on September 11, Ms. Viet told her husband that she was going to Do Luong town. It was already noon, Mr. Quang told his wife to finish lunch and then go wherever she wanted. Not listening to her husband, while Mr. Quang was busy preparing lunch in the kitchen, Ms. Viet, wearing a sun jacket and a helmet, quietly went to the river bank and jumped into the murky, fast-flowing water. At that time, it was raining heavily and the river water was rising.

At that time, many people around the area saw Ms. Viet jump into the river and immediately ran to save her but it was too late.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cong - a witness to the incident said that he was the first person to see Ms. Viet jump into the river. Mr. Cong also jumped into the water to save her but was helpless because the water was too strong and the current was strong.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Cong (born in 1965), a neighbor of Ms. Viet's family, he was also the first person to discover Ms. Viet jumping into the river. He saw Ms. Viet jump and immediately ran to save her but was too late because of the heavy rain and the rising floodwaters on the river. Mr. Cong also saw Ms. Viet drown in the middle of the water.

After hearing the news, Ms. Viet's husband immediately followed the Lam River with his neighbors to look for his wife but could not find her.

At around 3:00 p.m. the same day, Ms. Viet's family received information from the People's Committee of Thuan Son Commune (Do Luong). The information said that Ms. Tran Thi Viet had been found and she was still alive and safe.

According to Mr. Quang, Ms. Viet's husband, when he arrived at Thuan Son commune, he heard witnesses say that while they were fishing on the river, they suddenly discovered a woman floating on the Lam river, then drifted to the water's edge and then crawled to the shore by herself. The strange thing was that this woman had no clothes on her body, and no hat on her head (the helmet Ms. Viet was wearing before jumping into the river).
