Putting drugs in the car, intending to put her lover in jail, defendant Nguyen Thi Van received 5 years in prison for "Illegal possession of drugs", 1 year, 6 months in prison for "Slander".

The People's Court of Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi has just brought the case of "beautiful woman planting drugs" and former police officer to trial.

The two defendants Nguyen Thi Van (in Tay Ho, Hanoi) and Nguyen Thi Vung (former lieutenant of the Anti-Smuggling Crime Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) were brought to trial for the crimes of "Slander" and "Illegal possession of drugs".

According to the accusation, on the evening of October 28, 2016, the Mobile Police of Hanoi Police were on duty on Nguyen Hoang Street and suspected that the Hyundai Tucson car driven by Nguyen Van Thien was carrying Nguyen Thi Van with drugs.

Two defendants in court

The police stopped the car for inspection and discovered 5 plastic bags containing white crystalline powder, suspected to be drugs, in the trunk of the front passenger seat. Mr. Thien was taken to the Nam Tu Liem District Police Station for further investigation.

The investigation determined that since 2014, Van and Mr. Thien had a romantic relationship. At the end of 2015, the woman, who had a criminal record for trafficking women and had been married twice, and Mr. Thien came to live with her. The two often argued and fought with each other due to jealousy.

Around the end of September 2016, Van told the female police officer that she was often beaten by her lover and had a property dispute, so she wanted to "send" Thien to jail.

Van asked Vung, if he put drugs in the car, would he be caught? Vung said yes... Van and Vung agreed that after putting drugs in Thien's car, Vung would report to the police to check and arrest him.

Van had to give Vung 1 billion VND to ask the female police officer to inform the police to arrest Thien.

On October 10, 2016, Vung asked Van to sign a debt paper of 1 billion VND and gave Vung a certificate of house ownership in Nam Thang Long urban area, Tay Ho, Hanoi under Van's name.

After agreeing, on October 21, 2016, Van wrote information and specifications of Mr. Thien's car and gave it to Vung.

According to Van's testimony, at around 8:30 a.m. on October 28, 2016, Vung gave Van his phone number and told her to call that number and someone would give her drugs to put in Thien's car.

Around 12 noon that same day, a man called Van and told her that the drugs were at the base of a tree. Van went to the base of the tree and took a package of drugs weighing 7.003 grams of heroin and 1.484 grams of methamphetamine and put them in the trunk of Thien's front passenger seat.

At around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, 2016, Mr. Thien received a phone call from a person named Giang, asking to meet near the roundabout on Le Duc Tho Street to discuss buying and selling a house. Mr. Thien agreed and invited Van to go with him.

That night, Thien drove Van to the meeting place and was arrested with the drugs. While Thien was being held by Tu Liem police, Vung asked Van to pay him 1 billion VND. Van did not have enough money so she gave Vung 200 million VND.

During the investigation, Mr. Thien did not admit that the drugs in the car were his. The police had no other documents to prove it, so they had to release him.

Secretly self-investigate

After being released, Mr. Thien suspected that the drugs in the car were put there by Van, so he secretly collected information.

On November 11, 2016, he sent a complaint to the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency and submitted audio files of Van confessing to the crime; audio files of the conversation between Van and Vung; and photocopied documents of Zalo messages from Van's phone to a Zalo account with Vung's profile picture, requesting an investigation to clarify the matter.

Defendant Nguyen Thi Van

According to Van's testimony in court, after Vung agreed to help Van put her lover in jail by planting drugs in the car, Van felt scared and called Vung to express her intention to abandon the plan.

At this time, Vung said he had advanced 500 million VND, if Van took back the red book, Vung would let the mafia come and take Van's house. According to Van's statement, the female police officer was the one who initiated the plan to put Mr. Thien in jail.

During questioning in court, defendant Vung said he met Van through a friend. Around October 2016, Van asked Vung to report to the authorities to check on a suspect in drug possession.

Vung agreed to help report. On October 28, 2016, the female police officer received information about a Hyundai containing drugs, moving to Cau Giay district. The female lieutenant reported to the mobile police.

When the jury released the audio recording in which Vung said: "Just having drugs in the car is enough to kill, in some cases only 2 grams is enough to cause a normal death", Vung denied it, saying that there was absolutely no such thing.

Claiming that he was wronged, defendant Vung did not agree with the investigation conclusion and indictment.

The defense attorney for the former female investigator argued that the case had no physical evidence, and that voice examination was not forensic examination. The attorney requested that the case file be returned for investigation.

In court, Mr. Thien stated that after being released, he suspected that his arrest was the work of his lover, so he "psychologically attacked" Van.

All his doubts were cleared up when Van confessed her guilt. He then discussed with his lover to have her contact Vung and then recorded the conversations between Van and the female police officer...

After consideration, the panel sentenced defendant Vung to 6 years in prison for “Illegal possession of narcotics” and 1 year in prison for “Slander”. Defendant Van received 5 years in prison for “Illegal possession of narcotics” and 1 year and 6 months in prison for “Slander”.
