The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to make great efforts and determination to achieve the highest results in the socio-economic targets set this year.

On the morning of June 2, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired the regular Government meeting in May and the socio-economic situation.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc happily announced that for the past 48 days, our country has had no cases of Covid-19 infection in the community. Most of the infected cases have been cured and discharged from hospital. The 91st seriously ill patient is also recovering well.

The Prime Minister also expressed his impression that most of the localities where he had just worked were determined to complete the socio-economic targets set at the beginning of the year, such as Hanoi, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau... As for Ho Chi Minh City, because it is a large service city, it has been greatly affected by Covid-19, making it difficult to achieve the high targets set at the beginning of the year.

Regarding the socio-economic situation in May, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed that there were positive changes, the domestic market was restored, especially the tourism market became vibrant again.

In May, the Government also continued to issue many solutions to promote production and business, including Resolution 84 of the Government on tasks and solutions to continue removing difficulties for production and business, promoting disbursement of public investment capital and ensuring social order and safety in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"A very general thing is that the indicators of May are better than April. May is also the month when Vietnam's image internationally increases. We have directed with a spirit of determination not to retreat in the face of challenges, innovation in management, overcoming disruptions in supply chains, proactively attracting investment for development both domestically and internationally" - the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to the head of the Government, we also determined that this is a very important opportunity for our country to rise up in the context of many difficulties and challenges in the world. We have taken advantage of the golden opportunity from controlling the epidemic, so the atmosphere spreading in business has been removed and risen. The major balances of the economy are better. Inflation has decreased, people's lives are guaranteed. Localities with real difficulties have all received timely food support.

In recent times, the coordination between the executive, judicial and legislative branches has been effective, contributing to improving the efficiency of all aspects of the country's governance.

At this meeting, the Prime Minister asked the meeting participants to assess the risks and challenges that remain very large for the country, including difficulties related to weather and climate such as heat, drought, hail, thunderstorms, and tornadoes; major markets and important partners of Vietnam are all facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On that basis, propose solutions to boost the socio-economic situation in June, creating momentum for the second half of the year. The solutions must be specific and demonstrate high determination. Along with that, it is necessary to closely monitor the international situation to have countermeasures on trade, investment and tourism.

Regarding the issue of social concern and the National Assembly's supreme supervision of child abuse prevention and control, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested that stronger measures be continued to be taken to prevent child abuse and protect children's rights.

"In the supreme supervision report presented (at the ongoing National Assembly session), there are still 8,000 violations of children's rights. Therefore, localities and social organizations such as women's unions, youth unions, etc. need to promote their roles and responsibilities, contribute with authorities at all levels, and proactively monitor, especially those at high risk. Schools, childcare facilities, and entertainment facilities nationwide need to reassess risks to the security and lives of children. Strictly handle them to educate and deter. Combine families, schools, and society to work together to prevent unfortunate incidents against children," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Regarding the issue of pork prices, which the Prime Minister said was very “impatient”, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to present a number of measures and factors that make up pork prices, including the cost of animal feed, breeds, herd restoration, especially the intermediary stage. We only calculate the output without calculating the input, which is arbitrary and difficult to succeed.

The Prime Minister's viewpoint is to fundamentally and systematically solve the high pork price but also avoid the times when the pork price drops seriously, harming the interests of farmers, negatively affecting the sustainable development of the livestock industry. It is necessary to keep the pork price stable by thinking about the value chain, encouraging large-scale investment, applying modern technology, especially solving the input, breeding, and feed stages well, launching a livestock herd restoration movement on the basis of preventing African swine fever from showing abnormal signs. Along with that, there are other measures such as imports.
