(Baonghean.vn) - Located in the middle of a green rice field in Hamlet 7, Ngoc Son Commune, Do Luong District, Phuc Yen communal house is one of the ancient communal houses with beautiful architecture in Nghe An, over 200 years old.
Phuc Yen Communal House is the place to worship Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang, and is also a meeting place and a place for cultural and spiritual activities of Phuc Yen village, Ngoc Son commune. During the revolutionary period, the communal house was the revolutionary base of the Party, associated with many historical events against the French and the Americans. Currently, the communal house still retains intact 3 ancient architectural buildings and a number of precious artifacts of historical and cultural value.
According to historical documents, Muon village in Bach Duong commune (now Ngoc Son commune) was opened and formed during the Ly dynasty. After hundreds of years of being built up by alluvium from Lam river and the labor of generations, it developed into Phuc Yen village during the post-Le dynasty.

Currently, in an area of nearly 4,000 m2, Phuc Yen communal house has the following structures: gate, fence, Ngoc Son martyrs' stele house, garden, worshiping hall, harem, and communal house. The location for building the communal house was chosen to be suitable for geomancy, because it has the position of "dragons and tigers".

The communal house has 5 compartments, 2 wings, 24 wooden pillars, and a construction area of nearly 200 square meters. The roof is decorated with dragons and moons, the frame is made of ironwood, the trusses are shaped like the letter Dinh, and there are carvings of flowers and leaves according to traditional architectural motifs. The communal house is a meeting place, a place for spiritual and cultural activities to worship Ly Nhat Quang of Phuc Yen village, so in the past there were many worship objects made of wood, ceramic, and porcelain. Above is a horizontal plaque: "Thuong ha ton ti, phi le bat dinh". Meaning that activities in the communal house must have order and rules according to the village's rules and national laws.

The harem house has 3 compartments, 2 wings, a construction area of 74.9m2, beautifully decorated and solidly structured. The roof is embossed with "two dragons facing the moon", the roof corner is decorated with a soft dragon shape, the frame is made of ironwood with many parts carved with dragons, phoenixes, flowers and leaves very vividly. The rafters are designed in the style of front pillars, three oai, with only 2 main pillars, 1 small pillar, 1 round pillar. The technique of carving, joining, and joining the wooden components is done according to the mortise and tenon method of traditional handicrafts of Nghe An. On both sides of the harem house hang the parallel sentences: "Nghinh tho nghieu dan the cuu yen/Hoa binh chu nha than di phuc".

During the resistance war against the French, Phuc Yen communal house was used as a place to teach the national language to the people, and as a meeting place for the village to discuss organizing the resistance war and nation building.

During the resistance war against the US, the communal house was a place to store food and rice reserves to supply the battlefields in Laos and the South. The armed forces of Military Region IV used Phuc Yen communal house as a military supply warehouse, storing cotton and fabric. The communal house was also a place to organize production for the dyeing workshop, garment workshop 10, as a meeting hall, and as a logistics facility for the resistance war.
Over a long period of time, the worshipping of gods, meetings, and cultural activities at the Phuc Yen communal house became a familiar way of life for the residents of Phuc Yen and Bach Ngoc under feudalism. The events of the local faction fighting against the feudal faction, the French colonialists shooting revolutionaries, organizing literacy classes, and building warehouses to serve the resistance war that took place at the communal house are events that are remembered and preserved at the Phuc Yen communal house.
