Strange well caught fire

(Baonghean.vn) - After drilling less than 20 meters underground, water was found. Both the homeowner and the person who rented the well were secretly happy, but when the plastic pipe was lowered into the well, water did not come up but a stream of gas appeared and caught fire.

That happened at the house of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Liem (42 years old) in Ba Nghe hamlet, Thanh Giang commune (Thanh Chuong). Mr. Liem said that due to the drought, his family lacked water for daily use, so he needed to drill a well. On the morning of August 1, a drilling team from Thanh Ha commune came to drill a well in the corner of the front yard. When drilling to a depth of nearly 20m, they encountered sand and water, and the priming water above was completely lost, so the team decided to pull the drill bit up.

After lowering the plastic pipe, no water was seen rising but inside the pipe there was a bubbling sound, and a faint stream of air was rising from the mouth of the pipe. Feeling strange, a driller took a lighter and lightly lit the mouth of the pipe, and the flame rose nearly 30 cm high.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Mr. Liem's ​​wife, was still in shock: "At around 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, when we lit the well, the fire broke out on the plastic pipe. I was also shocked. Many villagers came to watch and asked many questions. At 10:00 p.m. that night, the fire was still burning strongly, but the family put it out to go to sleep."

Mr. Doan Van Thanh, a well driller in Hamlet 3, Thanh Ha Commune, who directly drilled the well at Mr. Liem's ​​house, said: "We have drilled a number of wells in the area, around Mr. Liem's ​​house such as Mrs. Lai's well, Mr. Luong's well, Mr. Tuan's well, but the wells are still normal, there is no strange gas, the water is still rising a lot. Drilling a well and encountering gas is a rare thing!"

It is known that this is the second house in Ba Nghe hamlet to experience this phenomenon. Four months ago, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu's house (near the Lam River, a few hundred meters from Mr. Liem's ​​house) also encountered gas when drilling a well to get water, so the current status was kept and no further construction was carried out.

After nearly 3 days, Mr. Liem's ​​well was still boiling, air bubbles were continuously coming out from the mouth of the well, and the fire was still burning normally. The driller used some tools to pump water into the well but the water still did not come up. Mr. Liem added: "There is a possibility that this well will have to be destroyed, but for now, let's leave it as it is and monitor it for a while."

Local people are confused about the cause of the "well fire" and hope to soon receive answers from scientists.
