“The virus is spreading at a speed that even the most pessimistic forecasts could not have foreseen,” Mr Macron said in a televised address. “Like all our neighbours, we are overwhelmed by the sudden acceleration of the virus. We are all in the same position, overwhelmed bysecond wavewhich we know will be more brutal, more deadly than the first time.”

More than 45 million people infected with Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has so far attacked 216 countries and territories around the world, infecting 45,294,739 people, of whom 1,185,535 have died. However, the world has also witnessed 32,942,919 cases of recovery after treatment.
