The 2018 Lunar New Year holiday schedule has been agreed upon by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, whereby workers will have 7 days off for the 2017 Lunar New Year.

On October 18, the final plan for the proposed 2018 Lunar New Year holiday schedule was commented on by 6 ministries, departments and branches.

All opinions agreed to support the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs on the plan to have 7 days off for Lunar New Year, including 2 days off before Tet and 5 days off after Tet.

Thus, employees will be off from February 14, 2018 to February 20, 2018 (ie from December 29 to January 5 of the lunar calendar).

Previously, in early October, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs sent a draft to ministries and branches for comments on the 2018 Tet holiday schedule with two options with different numbers of days off before Tet.

Option 1 stipulates 2 days off before Tet and 3 days off after Tet. Thus, employees will have 7 consecutive days off from February 14, 2018 to February 20, 2018 (ie December 29 to January 5).

Including 2 days before Tet, 3 days after Tet, 2 compensatory days off because the 2nd and 3rd day of Tet coincide with weekly days off.

Option 2 stipulates 1 day off before Tet and 4 days off after Tet. Thus, employees will have 7 consecutive days off from February 15, 2018 to February 21, 2018 (ie December 30 to January 6).

Including 1 day before Tet, 4 days after Tet, 2 compensatory days off because the 2nd and 3rd day of Tet coincide with weekly days off.

In the draft, many opinions support the proposal to choose option 1. The reason is that implementing the number of days off according to option 1 is harmonious and suitable because the number of days off before Tet is 2 days which is not too short, the number of days off after Tet is 5 days which is suitable.

With this option, the intermittent workday is 2 consecutive days, so the negative impact of intermittent work is not much.

Based on consensus, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs is urgently synthesizing and submitting to the Government for final comments on the plan for holidays and Tet in 2018. It is expected that the Tet holiday schedule will be approved in November./.
