Cuong was the one who used a hammer to smash the gold display cabinet of Son Trang gold shop on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh street, ward 25, Binh Thanh district; however, after only a few hours, Cuong was tracked down and arrested by the working group.
At the police station, Cuong confessed that because he was addicted to games and needed money to spend, he thought of robbing a gold shop. Cuong did not discuss the plan with anyone but carried out the plan alone. In the early afternoon of May 23, Cuong bought a hammer in the Red Bridge area (Binh Thanh District) for 15,000 VND, hid it on his person, then drove his Exciter motorbike with license plate 60B3-472.15 around the streets in Binh Thanh District, looking for gold shops with few people watching and no security guards to attack.
After walking around many streets, at around 1 p.m., Cuong discovered that the Son Trang gold shop was deserted, so he chose it as his target. Cuong stopped his car, entered the gold shop, pretended to be a customer, and asked to buy 2 gold bracelets. The employee showed them the 2 bracelets, but Cuong snatched them. Cuong did not run away immediately, but took out a hammer from his person, threatened the gold shop employee, then used the hammer to hit the gold display case with the intention of robbing more.
The employees in the gold shop shouted so Cuong did not have time to reach into the display case to get more assets, so he ran to his car and started the engine to escape. The people in the gold shop and the people around did not have time to chase.
Binh Thanh District Police cordoned off the scene to investigate the cause. Because the robbery occurred during the day and the suspect committed the act so boldly, Binh Thanh District Police coordinated with Team 3, Criminal Police Department to collect evidence, extract camera footage to identify the perpetrator and organize the investigation.
