Sick and dead pigs in Dien Chau and Yen Thanh tested negative for African swine fever

Previously, on March 18, in Do Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), two sick pigs appeared at Mr. Luyen Van Doan's house in Xuan Lai hamlet.

According to Mr. Doan, his pigs had stopped eating for 3 days. He called a veterinarian to give them injections but they did not cure the disease, so he reported it to the local authorities. Veterinary staff from Yen Thanh district immediately came to check and take samples for testing. The results on the morning of March 19 were negative for African swine fever.

Also on March 18, at Mr. Cao Van Cuong's house in Hamlet 12, Dien An Commune (Dien Chau), a sick pig died. District veterinary officers came to inspect and take samples for testing. After inspection and completing procedures, the authorities proceeded to destroy 2 pigs (including 1 dead pig and 1 seriously ill pig). The remaining sick pig and the entire herd are being closely inspected and monitored.

Test results on March 19 showed that the sick pig that died at Mr. Cuong's house was negative for African swine fever.

Thus, in the province, there have been 3 localities with sick pigs, including Hoang Mai, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh towns, including dead pigs in Hoang Mai and Dien Chau towns, both tested negative for African swine fever.

These are all vulnerable areas, close to Quynh Luu district where swine fever has occurred. Therefore, local authorities and farmers in these areas are focusing on disease prevention, especially strengthening control of slaughtering, transporting, and trading of pigs in the spirit of not letting the disease spread.
