Opened the plane door and committed suicide because of an argument with his girlfriend

A young Chinese man threatened to commit suicide after arguing with his girlfriend and tried to open the emergency exit while the plane was in the air.

According to SCMP, the incident happened on a flight from Chongqing to Beijing yesterday. The 18-year-old university student had an argument with his 20-year-old girlfriend. The man got angry when she said they were not compatible and needed to stop seeing each other.

The guy stood up, declared that he would die in front of her, then pushed his girlfriend and the flight attendant standing nearby aside, ran to the emergency exit and tried to open the door but was restrained by security personnel. When the plane landed, the guy was taken to the police station.

"I was so angry, I just wanted to scare her. I really didn't intend to jump," the young man said. "I didn't foresee the consequences. Now I've learned my lesson."

The man will be detained for 15 days for illegally using a device on an airplane. His girlfriend was fined 200 yuan ($30) for disturbing public order.
