Opening the way to help Yen Thang escape poverty
(Baonghean)- Currently, Yen Thang is still one of the poorest communes in Tuong Duong district. The poverty rate in the whole commune is still at 92%. According to Mr. Quang Van Hoi, the cause of poverty is that the main source of income for Yen Thang people is mainly from slash-and-burn farming and livestock farming.
Meanwhile, the terrain here is steep and mountainous, the ability to apply science and technology to production is limited, productivity and food output are very unstable. Livestock farming in the locality is still in the form of free-range grazing, so the risk is very high because it is always threatened by disease, cold and theft. Therefore, the problem of expanding production, solving employment, increasing income and improving living standards is a headache for the Party Committee and government of Yen Thang commune.
At present, due to the difficult life and lack of stable jobs, many people have to go to the streams to pan for gold. However, this is only a way to "fill" their free time, the economic efficiency is really insignificant, and they have to bear the risk of health effects due to water pollution.
Lacking stable jobs, many people in Yen Thang commune (Tuong Duong) have to go down to the stream to pan for gold.
In addition, Yen Thang still has 2/8 villages (Tat and Xop Cop villages) without grid electricity and traffic is still difficult. These are significant obstacles for the people of the two villages mentioned above in socio-economic exchange and improving people's knowledge and broadening their horizons.
Discussing the direction to help Yen Thang escape from poverty and backwardness, Mr. Quang Van Hoi, Vice Chairman of Yen Thang Commune People's Committee, said: "Yen Thang people need to be trained in science and technology to gradually increase crop and livestock productivity and learn some suitable trades (weaving, knitting) to solve employment and increase income.
At the same time, we hope that relevant levels and sectors will invest in reclaiming and expanding the area of wet rice fields (currently the whole commune only has 8 hectares). Research and invest in suitable varieties of plants and animals to help people have more opportunities to expand production and livestock, gradually stabilizing their lives."
