Open literacy class for prisoners at Prison No. 3

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 8, a literacy class for prisoners at Prison No. 3 was opened with the participation of 28 prisoners. The activity is part of a joint program between the Department of Education and Training of Tan Ky district and Prison No. 3 - General Department 8 - Ministry of Public Security.

These are prisoners serving their sentences at Prison No. 3 - Tan Ky district and most of them have not been educated or are illiterate.

Participating in the class for 9 months, prisoners will be taught culture by teachers according to the Literacy Eradication Program of the Ministry of Education and Training from grade 1 to grade 3. In addition, prisoners will also be introduced to knowledge of civic education, law and learn about culture and society.

Currently, Prison No. 3 has nearly 2,500 prisoners (of which 150 are serving life sentences). According to the survey, the majority of prisoners have a junior high school education, about 5% are illiterate or re-illiterate, and are mainly ethnic minorities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Thai Huy Vinh highly appreciated the implementation of the literacy class and the sense of responsibility of the prison teachers and staff in organizing the classes.

The leaders of the Department of Education and Training also hope that from this class, prisoners will make efforts, consider the prison as a school, try to study to improve their qualifications. At the same time, study well, practice well to soon reform, return to their families, and integrate into the community.
