(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, in the fields of Anh Son district, farmers are rushing to harvest the 2018 cassava crop. In particular, this year's cassava crop is bountiful, and prices are at their peak compared to the past 5 years, so farmers are very excited.

On the cassava hills in Hoa Son and Tuong Son communes these days, people go to the fields early in the morning to harvest cassava in time for trucks to transport it.

Ms. Lo Thi Thoa, Yen Hoa village, Hoa Son commune excitedly said: "This crop, her family planted 1 hectare of cassava. This year, the price is almost double that of last year. Currently, the purchase price at the factory is up to 1.9 million VND/ton, last year it was only 1 million VND/ton. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, the family harvested and sold immediately, fearing that the price would drop at the end of the season. Currently, Ms. Thoa's family has harvested more than 5 sao. According to Ms. Thoa's calculation, this year her family harvested more than 15 tons of cassava. With such a selling price, after deducting investment costs, the profit is over 25 million VND.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh's family in Vinh Kim village, Hoa Son commune, has been growing cassava for 3 years now, on an area of ​​1.2 hectares. Ms. Thanh said: "Up to this point, my family has harvested more than 3 tons of cassava on an area of ​​nearly 2 sao. With the current selling price to the factory of 1.9 million VND/1 ton, we earn nearly 6 million VND. If the price is stable, the life of cassava growers will be less difficult."

In 2018, Anh Son district had 764 hectares of cassava with nearly 100% of the area being high-yield varieties. Currently, cassava is grown in many communes such as Thanh Son, Binh Son, Tho Son, Hoa Son, Tuong Son, etc.

Every year, from October to the end of December is the harvest season. This year, the average yield is estimated at 189.6 quintals/ha, up 4.1% over the same period, with an output of 14,485 tons.

With the price of 1,900 VND/kg, the highest in the past 5 years, cassava growers estimate that their profit after harvest is about 20-30 million VND/ha. From the total existing area, it is estimated that farmers in Anh Son district will earn nearly 30 billion VND from harvesting cassava tubers this year.
