Husband receives death sentence, wife goes to jail for buying 3kg of drugs to sell during Tet

(Baonghean.vn) - Having been imprisoned many times for theft, Dung still reoffended. This time, Dung went to a mountainous district in Nghe An to buy 650 million VND worth of drugs to sell during Tet and dragged his wife into prison.

On December 15, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of the defendants Doan Van Dung (born in 1978), residing in Nghi Duc commune, Vinh city; Nguyen Thi Trang (born in 1974), residing in Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city and Nguyen Cong Hoi (born in 1980), residing in Quang Trung ward, Vinh city for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics".drug”. Defendant Pham Minh Hieu (born 1977), residing in Hung Chinh commune, Vinh city, was prosecuted for the crime of “Illegal possession of narcotics”.

The defendants all have bad personal records and have been sentenced to prison for drug-related crimes and theft. Among them, the defendants Dung and Trang are husband and wife.

According to investigation documents, on January 22, 2020, Dung went to the forest area of Tri Le commune, Que Phong district to buy 650 million VND worth of drugs from a Lao man, brought them back and divided them into two houses in hamlets 16 and 17, Nghi Phu commune, with the intention of reselling them for profit.
On the morning of January 28, Nguyen Cong Hoi called Dung to order two types of drugs for a total of 4.5 million VND. Dung agreed and told Hoi, "When you get the drugs, come see Trang (Dung's wife)."

That same afternoon, Trang sold drugs to Hoi. She took them home to hide, and then Hoi sold 0.34g to a man named Hieu, when Hieu was arrested by the police. Based on Hieu's statement, the police arrested Hoi, Trang, and Dung.

When Trang’s residence was searched, Doan Van Dung voluntarily handed over drugs to the police. Thus, Doan Van Dung must bear criminal responsibility for the act of buying and selling nearly 3 kg of drugs. Nguyen Thi Trang must bear responsibility for the act of buying and selling 4.815 grams of drugs.
Nguyen Cong Hoi must bear criminal responsibility for the act of illegally buying and selling 6.35 grams of drugs.
In court, the defendants admitted their crimes. Defendant Dung confessed that he bought a large quantity of drugs to sell during Tet because of greed.
Considering the case comprehensively, the panel sentenced Doan Van Dung.death penalty, defendant Nguyen Thi Trang was sentenced to 2 years in prison, defendant Nguyen Cong Hoi was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking", defendant Pham Minh Hieu was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the crime of illegal possession of drugs.
