(Baonghean.vn) - In the summer days of May, Muong Long plums (Ky Son) are in harvest season. However, this year's plum gardens are deserted by traders due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Nearly 300km from Vinh city, Muong Long is nestled in a valley, 1,485m above sea level. This place is known as the "gate to heaven", "Sa Pa of Nghe An" because of its cool, gentle climate. Photo: Thanh Cuong

Coming to Muong Long these days, we will be immersed in the gardens of ripe plums. Photo: Thanh Cuong
For a long time, Muong Long plums have been favored by many people because they are grown completely naturally, without using any pesticides, so they are always clean. Photo: Thanh Cuong
Ms. Ho Y Zenh's family in Muong Long 2 village currently has nearly 50 plum trees that are in harvest. Every year, these plum trees bring in a good income for the family. Photo: Thanh Cuong
However, due to hailstorms at the beginning of this year, many plums fell off, and the ones still on the tree were bruised, so the quality decreased sharply. Photo: Thanh Cuong
Along with that, the current price of plums at the garden is 10,000 VND/kg, lower than other years by 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg, so Ms. Y Zenh as well as many people in the village do not want to pick them. Photo: Thanh Cuong

Despite the low prices, traders have not come much due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. People mainly pick the fruit themselves and bring it to the retail market. Photo: Thanh Cuong

Currently, the entire Muong Long commune has more than 25 hectares of plum trees of all kinds, mainly three-flower plum trees. However, the trees were planted from 2003 until now, the plum trees are old, produce small fruits, low yield and poor quality. The plum trees that are currently producing the main harvest are mostly grown in home gardens. Photo: Thanh Cuong
