In 2018, Trinh worked for hire in Vientiane, Lao PDR. When preparing to return home for Tet, Trinh proposed to buy 15 packages of pink drugs from a Lao man named Xon for 4 million VND/package to bring back to Vietnam to sell for profit and Xon agreed. Trinh brought the drugs home to hide and find a place to sell them.
At around 12 noon on March 28, a man named Nam (unknown background and identity) came to Trinh's house to buy drugs. The two sides agreed on a price of 6.3 million VND/package, to be delivered that same evening in Dien Thai commune, Dien Chau district.
At 10 p.m. on March 28, Trinh brought 10 packages of heroin to the agreed location to deliver to Nam. While the two were making the transaction, the police discovered and arrested him. Taking advantage of the chaos, the man named Nam quickly escaped. Searching Trinh's house, the police seized 5 more packages of heroin.
At the trial, Vo Huu Trinh admitted all his crimes. The panel sentenced defendant Trinh to 20 years in prison.
