13-year-old male student drowned in school swimming pool in Vinh City
(Baonghean.vn) - A 13-year-old male student bought a ticket to learn swimming at a high school in Vinh City and drowned.
On the afternoon of August 24, a leader of the People's Committee of Ha Huy Tap Ward, Vinh City, said that the local government is requesting Nguyen Truong To High School to report and clarify the case of a 13-year-old male student drowning in the school's swimming pool. This is a private high school located in Ha Huy Tap Ward.
According to initial information, on the afternoon of August 22, a group of students bought tickets to learn to swim at the swimming pool of Nguyen Truong To High School. At around 3 p.m., people discovered NTB (13 years old) drowning at the bottom of the pool. People present at the scene shouted to save the victim. B. was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but died a day later.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Ha Huy Tap Ward, B.'s family situation is very difficult. The victim was from Nghi Loc district but followed his mother to Vinh city to rent a room.
This swimming pool was built by Nguyen Truong To High School in 2019.
Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper reporter, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Principal of Nguyen Truong To High School said: This is an unfortunate incident and the school's board of directors is still coordinating with the victim's family to organize the funeral.
According to Mr. Tuan, on the day of the incident, B. went to swimming lessons with 4 other children. This was the first time B. had come here. "There are always 2 lifeguards at the swimming pool. At that time, there were about 20 children in the pool. However, the children probably thought he was joking so they didn't pay attention. Then, when they saw him sinking in the water, the lifeguards quickly went down to give him first aid and called the medical station and 115. When they brought him up, he was unconscious. According to the report of the 2 lifeguards, the monitoring process was not timely, the incident happened in a short time. This is a heartbreaking incident," said Mr. Tuan, adding that the house currently has 3 swimming pools, including 1 fixed pool and 2 mobile pools made of canvas. The incident happened at the fixed pool. All swimming pools have full licenses.
