Male student won 2 first prizes at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition for Grade 12
(Baonghean.vn) - Deciding to participate in the 12th grade excellent student exam with two subjects: Math and Physics, Phan Duy Manh - class 12A1, Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City) excellently became the only candidate in group A to win 2 first prizes in this year's exam.
First Prize of Determination
Phan Duy Manh was not surprised to receive the news that he won the first prize in the provincial Physics competition with 18.38 points. Manh said that he had calculated his score as soon as he stepped out of the exam room because in this year's exam, there was only one question that he could not complete. For the remaining questions, Manh had almost 100% correct results.
But withFirst PrizeIn Math, Manh was quite surprised because he had not completed all the questions. However, Manh was confident that he would not miss any points for the questions within his ability. As for Math, he got 16.5 points and that was the absolute score of the questions that Manh had completed.

As a diligent and meticulous student, Manh is very modest when talking about himself, admitting that he is not the best student in class 12A1. Before taking the entrance exam to Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Manh studied at Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School (Nam Dan). Manh's entrance exam score for grade 10 was not high compared to his classmates, but he was given priority to be in a gifted class because he won the Encouragement Prize in Mathematics at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition for grade 9. During his first year of high school, Manh was not an outstanding student and had little interaction with teachers. It was not until the end of grade 10, after the final assessment test in Physics, that Manh was suddenly discovered by the teacher because he was one of the three students with the highest score.

Manh's path to winning the provincial excellent student award had many memorable moments. The most difficult part was probably when he had to choose between taking one or two subjects, including Math and Physics.
Mr. Dinh Van Tuan - Manh's Physics teacher added: At first, Manh participated in training for both subjects at the same time. I still advised him to make a choice early because taking two subjects at the same time would be very difficult and sometimes ineffective. Manh asked me for time to think and it took him about a week to make his decision. However, what surprised us was that he decided to register for both subjects.
Sharing about his decision, Manh said, “I don’t want to let down my teachers because they are very dedicated to their students. Personally, when I chose to take both Physics and Math, I had to work twice or three times harder than my friends. The most stressful time was the final stretch, when the Math and Physics teams often studied at the same time. Therefore, after finishing the Physics exam, I went to the Math class to ask for more questions to keep up with my friends. In the evening, I often talked to my Math teacher so he could supplement my knowledge.”

Success from passion
With the first prize in Mathematics and Physics, Phan Duy Manh is the only student out of more than 3,000 candidates in Group A to achieve this excellent result. This result has contributed significantly to putting the student team of Huynh Thuc Khang High School in the top schools with the best results in this year's 12th grade Excellent Student Competition with 60 prizes, including 11 first prizes, 28 second prizes, 12 third prizes and 9 consolation prizes.
Talking about this achievement, Ms. Le Hong Lam - Vice Principal of the school said: This is one of the years with the best results in the excellent student competition of our school. In that common success, there are the efforts of the students and the dedication and responsibility of the teachers.

As one of the teams with the best results in this year's exam with 2 first prizes, 6 second prizes, 1 third prize, and 1 encouragement prize, teacher Dinh Van Tuan - the teacher who trained the Physics team said: "I think this is not luck but the efforts of the students throughout the preparation process. In fact, before this exam, we had reviewed up to 50 questions and the results of the students' answers were equivalent to the scores in the real exam."
For this teacher, in the process of selecting a team, instead of focusing on the student's previous achievements, the most important thing is to pay attention to the current learning results. The second factor is that the student must have passion, will and a positive learning attitude.

While Mr. Tuan has 21 years of experience in the profession, with many years of training excellent students at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, this year is the first year that teacher Dau Thanh Ky has led the Math team, after 6 years of working at the school. And the Math team of 6/6 students competing all won prizes, including 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes.
Talking about the exam preparation process for students, Mr. Ky added: Although the number of students could be increased, when choosing the team, I carefully considered and only finalized the list of 6 students. My first criterion when students join the team is that they must be truly passionate.

Talking more about the two students who won the first prize in Math, Mr. Ky said that he was very impressed because both of them were students from district schools, in which, Manh used to study at Nam Dan district secondary school, the other first prize was Tran Duc Quang, who used to study at Tuong Duong district secondary school. Although the starting point was not favorable, to reach this final success, according to Mr. Ky, it was completely deserved because Manh was a very persistent student, determined, resilient, not afraid to learn from teachers, friends, and had strategies when doing exercises. Meanwhile, Quang was a student who had a breakthrough, had good thinking, and was intelligent./.
