On September 14, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Chuong Van Thuan (born 1988), residing in Binh Chuan commune, Con Cuong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the indictment, on March 29, a man named Nam in Quy Hop town called Thuan to buy 8 taels of heroin. The two parties agreed on a price of 3.5 million VND, and scheduled delivery for March 30.

At around 9pm the same day, Thuan rode his motorbike to Yen Na commune, Tuong Duong district to buy 8 taels of heroin from a man named Nhenh (unclear personal background) for 14 million VND. Nhenh gave Thuan 12 pink pills as a bonus.

At around 1 p.m. on March 30, Thuan drove a motorbike carrying drugs to Quy Hop to deliver to Nam. When arriving at Pan village, Chau Ly commune, Quy Chau district, Chuong Van Thuan was arrested by the police. Authorities seized 36.565 grams of heroin and 1.210 grams of synthetic drugs from Thuan.

At the trial, Chuong Van Thuan admitted his crime. Thuan said he was addicted to drugs but had no money. So when Nam “ordered”, Thuan decided to buy drugs to resell and use the profit to buy heroin to satisfy his addiction.

Considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced Chuong Van Thuan to 15 years in prison.
