May 13: 3 more African swine fever outbreaks detected in Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts
(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever is currently evolving very complicatedly. On May 12, new outbreaks appeared in Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts. Localities have organized the destruction of infected pigs. Thus, Dien Chau has 9 communes and Nghi Loc has 2 communes affected by African swine fever.
Information from the Dien Chau District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station said that on May 12, there were two more outbreaks of African swine fever in the district, Dien Doai and Dien Xuan.
Accordingly, in Dien Xuan commune, on May 11, the veterinary agency took samples of sick pigs at Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen's household in hamlet 6. At the same time, they took samples of sick pigs at Mr. Nguyen Huu Liem's household in hamlet 15, Dien Doai commune.

By the afternoon of May 12, the Veterinary Agency of Region III had the test results of the two samples above, both positive for African swine fever. Of which, the herd of pigs of Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen's family in Dien Xuan commune had 2 pigs; the herd of pigs of Mr. Nguyen Huu Liem's family in Dien Doai commune had 8 pigs.
In addition, on May 12, in Hamlet 6, Dien Xuan Commune, 2 households also reported to the commune authorities that they had sick pigs, including: Mr. Nguyen Van Bon's household in Hamlet 6 had 4 sick pigs and Mr. Tran Dang Khoa's household had 6 sick pigs.

On the morning of May 13, Dien Chau District Veterinary Station destroyed all sick pigs of all the above households.
Dien Xuan Commune has set up 6 checkpoints on 3 main roads: Provincial Road 538C, National Highway 7B and inter-commune roads. In addition to the 22 liters of chemicals provided by the district, the commune bought 500 kg of lime powder and dozens of square meters of tarpaulin to set up checkpoints and destroy pigs. Starting from May 13, the commune announced a ban on slaughtering pigs and transporting pigs in and out of the commune without the approval of the veterinary agency.
In Nghi Loc district, the outbreak was discovered at the house of Mrs. Pham Thi Huong, hamlet 22, Nghi Trung commune. On May 10, Mrs. Huong's sow stopped eating, had a high fever, and had red skin... On May 11, the pig died, and she reported it to the local authorities to take samples for testing. The results showed that the sample was positive for African swine fever.

Nghi Loc district has organized the destruction of Mrs. Huong's pig herd according to the correct procedure, including 1 sow weighing 120 kg and 3 pigs weighing 180 kg in total.
We have provided the locality with 26 liters of chemicals for disinfection spraying and set up 3 checkpoints in Hamlet 22, Nghi Trung Commune to control animals entering and leaving the epidemic area. We will remind the staff on duty at the checkpoints to allocate shifts and personnel appropriately, and to enhance their sense of responsibility so that epidemic prevention work is ensured.

Up to now, Dien Chau district has 9 communes with pigs testing positive for African swine fever including: Dien Van, Dien Kim, Dien Thai, Dien Truong, Dien My, Dien Quang, Dien Bich, Dien Doai and Dien Xuan. Nghi Loc district has 2 communes with pigs infected with African swine fever including: Nghi My and Nghi Trung.
