Human trafficking is a burning issue, a challenge to national and regional security. According to a report by the Ministry of Public Security, in the 5 years (2016 - 2020), there were 2,912 victims of human trafficking and suspected human trafficking. Of these, the victims are mainly women and children (accounting for over 90%), often concentrated in rural, mountainous, remote and isolated areas.

In Nghe An alone, in the 5 years (2016-2020), the police force discovered and arrested 67 cases, 113 subjects related to human trafficking crimes; discovered and handled 3 cases, 6 subjects related to buying and selling fetuses.

Currently, human trafficking crimes are using increasingly sophisticated and diverse methods. Taking advantage of economic difficulties, unemployment, and underemployment, with the lure of "easy work, high salary". Then, they organize for victims to illegally cross the border and sell them to online gambling establishments, massage service businesses, and disguised karaoke. Many people in Nghe An as well as other localities have been "trapped", becoming victims of forced labor, abuse, unpaid wages, etc.

Therefore, Nghe An is one of four provinces selected to implement the project; focusing on districts and communes with high numbers of illegal migrants, especially from Vietnam to the UK and European countries.

The workshop is expected to last for 1 day. This will be an important initial activity to prepare for the stages of proposing approval of the Project "Fighting againstagainst human trafficking and modern slavery"The 2023-2025 period will be implemented by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in coordination with IOM./.
