December 10, 2016 11:35

(Baonghean) - Although there are still nearly 2 months left until Lunar New Year, farmers in localities in the province have begun preparing products to serve the market, focusing on producing clean agricultural products.

Many orange farms in Dong Thanh and Yen Thanh also have plans to save oranges to serve the demand during the Lunar New Year.

With a large-scale farm, producing an average of over 100 tons of mushrooms each year, Mr. Le Van Hanh, hamlet 12, Son Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) is currently focusing on preparing goods to serve the increased demand during Tet.

Mr. Hanh said: Normally, production is not enough to meet the market demand. In 2015, the farm produced 80 tons of mushrooms, but in the last 3 months of this year, the amount of consumed goods doubled. In 2016, the expected number of products is 120 tons of oyster mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, 500 kg of lingzhi mushrooms, but that only meets about 70% of the market demand.

A mushroom “cycle” takes 1.5 months to produce a product, so to prepare for the Lunar New Year, production must start now. I have invested an additional 100 million VND to buy raw materials such as corn, seeds, firewood, bags, etc. to make 20,000 bags of oyster mushrooms, 120,000 bags of wood ear mushrooms, etc.

However, that quantity of goods only meets the orders that have been placed in advance and we dare not accept more. Consumers increasingly favor this product because it is clean food, without any toxic chemical residues. Next year, if I am given favorable conditions in terms of land and loan capital, I will invest in expanding the production area to double the current one, to meet the market demand.

In Dong Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), it is now the beginning of the orange season. With 18 hectares of oranges already harvested, it is expected that this season Thien Son Orange Farm, Dong Trung hamlet will harvest about 400 tons. Mr. Trinh Xuan Giao, the farm owner, shared: Currently, oranges are being consumed very well, consumers love them because they have a very characteristic sweet and aromatic taste.

However, we plan to harvest only about 3/4 of the area to sell before Tet, the rest will continue to be cared for to serve the needs of the Lunar New Year. Last year, 100 tons of oranges were sold out before Tet, this year until now we have only received pre-orders for about 3 tons, the remaining 90 tons of oranges if not pre-ordered will be brought to the market, mainly in Vinh City, Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon.

Many orange growers do not want to keep oranges for Tet because it affects the quality of the trees, slows down the care process for the next crop, and causes about 10% of the oranges to fall off. However, in return, the oranges reach a ripe, delicious state, are sold to serve the needs of Tet, and the price is also very high, almost double the current price.

Located adjacent to Vinh City, Hung Nguyen District has clear advantages in food consumption, especially during Tet. With a total herd of nearly 850,000 poultry and 24,500 pigs, since the beginning of the year, Hung Nguyen's pork output has reached 6,270 tons, mainly consumed in Vinh City, a small amount brought to Hanoi.

Deputy Head of the District Agriculture Department, Ms. Ba Thi Dung said: The time for a batch of pigs to be sold is 3 months. More than a month ago, farmers started to increase their herds to sell during Tet and now, a new batch has been released to meet the market demand for food, which usually increases after Tet due to shortages.

Implementing the plan to produce clean and safe food, recently, Hung Nguyen Farm Economic Association has built a number of clean pork selling points in Hung My, Hung Tan and Hung Dao communes. The district also issued a number of support mechanisms such as each farm with products that are granted a Certificate of food safety by the competent authority will be supported with 25 million VND/product, and is expected to support the opening of more clean food selling points in the area...

As the province’s “vegetable region”, farmers in Quynh Luu district are currently focusing on preparing an abundant supply of goods to supply the Lunar New Year market. In Quynh Luong commune, this year, due to the weather, many vegetable crops planted in October were almost completely damaged, but at present, vegetables in the fields have turned green again.

With a winter vegetable area of about 220 hectares, in recent years, Quynh Luong farmers have introduced many new vegetable varieties to meet consumer tastes, such as basic cabbage using only Japanese cabbage varieties, the heaviest is only 1.5 kg, or tomatoes using some hybrid tomato varieties from Thailand and the US to ensure sweetness and longer preservation.

Following VietGap production process, in 2015, Quynh Luong had 10 hectares of model fields, this winter crop was expanded to 20 hectares to meet the demand for safe products.

Quynh Luu has a winter vegetable area of up to 1,800 hectares. With a tradition of growing vegetables, people are very experienced, and in the planting plan, they always determine to arrange a variety of vegetables to meet market demand.

At the same time, choose suitable vegetable varieties to arrange for harvesting during Tet, long-term vegetables are planted early, short-term vegetables are planted late. People determine the types of vegetables that are popular and consumed a lot during Tet to focus on growing such as: tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, potatoes, etc.; introduce new vegetables such as Chinese cabbage and celery to diversify products.

There are less than 2 months left until Lunar New Year. In addition to the efforts of farmers in localities who are focusing on preparing goods to meet the increased consumption demand at the end of the year, the authorities and localities also need to actively participate, guide appropriate production measures and plans, and at the same time strengthen inspection and supervision of strict compliance with recommendations and regulations in the production of safe agricultural products and food, contributing to ensuring a safe Lunar New Year.

Head of the Department of Agriculture of Quynh Luu district, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh:

In the current general trend, as well as in people's preparation of agricultural products for Tet, it is clear that one factor that needs to be concerned and given top priority is the issue of ensuring safe vegetable production.

Since 2015, Quynh Luu district has implemented the construction of a number of GAP production models and linked production according to the value chain in the communes of Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong and Quynh Bang with an area of 10 hectares/commune. At the same time, it has linked with Tam Nguyen Company to produce vegetables according to orders, according to the safe vegetable production chain to put into the company's supply system (linked with the GAP model).

To prepare goods for Tet, along with the initiative of farmers, the district also focused on many solutions to advise people to plant in separate crops, diversify products to avoid congestion, oversupply leading to price drops and surplus.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tue - Chairman of Quynh Luong Commune People's Committee:

Areas for growing cabbage and kohlrabi have already begun to be mounded; short-term vegetables such as dwarf mustard greens and sweet cabbage, which only need 20-30 days to be sold, are taking longer to grow and can still be rotated for several more crops before being concentrated on growing and selling for Tet.

To avoid the phenomenon of concentrated and massive vegetable planting to serve Tet, leading to excess supply, price drops and unsold products, we guide people to intercrop short-term and long-term vegetables, diversify products, and plant in separate seasons to avoid product backlog; at the same time, pay attention to the vegetable growing area to serve the demand after Tet, to avoid shortages and surpluses and shortages of vegetable products.
