Nghe An: Proposing solutions for sustainable forestry
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 11, in Cua Lo town, the workshop "Consultation on institutions, plans, and techniques related to the sustainable forestry target program and emission reduction program" was held by the Management Board of the project to support the preparation for REDD+ implementation in Vietnam, phase 2, Nghe An province.
Attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, District People's Committees, Forest Protection Management Boards, Pu Mat National Park, Pu Huong and Pu Hoat Nature Reserves.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the target program for sustainable forestry development was assigned by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 6237/QD-UBND, in the first 6 months of 2018, the whole province had over 951 thousand hectares well protected, completing the first care for over 46 thousand hectares.
Deploying forest regeneration and protection on 76,000 hectares, concentrated forest planting on over 7,650 hectaresha; carry out forestry land allocation associated with forest allocation and forest leasing for 4 units with an area of over 1,982 ha; well perform the function of advising on State management in the field of nature conservation.
The planning of 3 types of forests has been basically completed. Currently, the appraisal work and steps are being carried out to compare with the planning and land use plans at the provincial level according to current regulations.

The workshop aims to provide staff of forestry companies and forest management boards at all levels with information on the sustainable forestry target program associated with the greenhouse gas emission reduction program. Delegates also discussed and contributed ideas to develop and propose solutions for sustainable forest development and prepare for the implementation of REDD+ (Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Program).
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Tien Lam - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed: In order to effectively implement the Sustainable Forestry Development Program and the REDD+ Program, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to direct the dissemination of objectives, action programs, and implementation measures. These are two programs closely linked in terms of viewpoints, objectives, action plans, and management.

Closely follow the basic indicators of the programs on industry growth rate, coverage, productivity and quality of planted forests; indicators on forest protection; restoration of degraded forest ecosystems; forest environmental services, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions... to focus on directing and completing the set indicators and tasks.
Strengthen coordination between the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to effectively implement land allocation associated with forest allocation.
Strengthen measures to protect forests at the root, patrol forests, promptly detect, arrest, and strictly handle individuals and organizations that violate the law./.
