Nghe An: Nearly 6,000 hectares of rice cannot be planted due to drought
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 9, a working delegation of the province led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong inspected the agricultural production situation in Yen Thanh, Dien Chau and Quynh Luu districts.
Currently, the whole province has 5,914 hectares of rice that cannot be planted due to lack of water. In particular, about 500 hectares of rice have been damaged by black-striped dwarf disease.
This summer-autumn crop, Yen Thanh district has planted 12,383 hectares out of the plan of 12,800 hectares, of which 8,723.5 hectares are transplanted and 3,605 hectares are direct sown; in addition, there are 266 hectares of corn, 46 hectares of peanuts, and 248 hectares of vegetables.
The representative of the district People's Committee said that up to now, Yen Thanh still has about 300 hectares that have not been cultivated due to lack of water, 200 hectares have been abandoned by people, and 1,000 hectares have been cultivated but are suffering from drought.
In addition, 85 hectares of rice have been infected with black-striped dwarf disease, concentrated in Hong Thanh and Phu Thanh communes... The entire district has organized planthopper control on over 4,000 hectares of rice.

Dien Chau district has planted 9,200 hectares of summer-autumn rice/plan of 9,200 hectares (100% achieved). Of which, the area of planted rice is 9,150 hectares; direct-sown rice is 50 hectares. As of July 7, the whole district has 210 hectares of summer-autumn rice lacking water, concentrated in the areas at the end of the canal, highlands or far from water sources. The district is focusing on solutions to create water sources for rice irrigation.
Quynh Luu district has planted 7,370 hectares of rice/plan 7,550 hectares (reaching 97.62%). As of July 9, the total drought area in the district is 820 hectares, of which 212 hectares have not been planted and 608 hectares have been planted and are at risk of dying due to lack of water.
In addition, the white-backed planthopper sample tested positive for black-striped dwarf disease in Quynh Luu. The district has directed people to focus on using specific pesticides to spray white-backed planthoppers for the first time.
At the meeting, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district proposed that the province consider supporting the district with funding to build and dredge a number of irrigation canals, new pumping stations, and support fuel money to pump water from dams with water levels lower than the water intake sluices to serve production.

According to a report from the provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, by July 9, Nghe An had planted 77,953.6 hectares of summer-autumn rice/plan 96,000 hectares (reaching 81.20%). Of which, summer-autumn rice was 59,802.8 hectares/plan 58,000 hectares; winter-spring rice was 18,150.8 hectares/plan 38,000 hectares. The whole province hasPlanting 8,235.3 hectares of corn/plan 16,500 hectares; nearly 447.9 hectares of peanuts/plan 1,200 hectares; 2,548.6 hectares of sesame/plan 3,500 hectares and 4,527.3 hectares of vegetables and beans/plan 9,000 hectares.
Due to the impact of the severe heat wave in recent days, 17,870.5 hectares of rice and almost all of the area of various crops are in a state of drought. Of which, the area of rice that has not been produced is 5,914 hectares.

After checking the actual situation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong requested: Localities must focus on reviewing and balancing water resources to arrange all forces, take advantage of water resources by all means to take care of rice seedlings and planted rice areas;
Farmers are advised to take care of and fertilize rice to help it grow well. For crops, based on the specific situation of each locality, urgently plant to ensure the plan targets.
Specialized units have increased field inspections to quickly detect and promptly handle outbreaks of pests and diseases, especially black-striped dwarf disease, brown planthoppers, white-backed planthoppers, and leaf rollers.
In particular, the weather may have unusual developments, so it is necessary to proactively take effective solutions, arrange a reasonable crop structure, and regularly monitor to proactively and promptly prepare prevention and control plans.
