Nghe An: Poultry and seafood prices increase near Tet

(Baonghean.vn) - After the worshiping day of Ong Cong and Ong Tao, from January 29 (December 24), all items increased in price, especially poultry and seafood.

Giat Market is the busiest shopping center in Quynh Luu District. On the days before Tet, goods and products are displayed in all the stalls to serve the needs of consumers. At the poultry buying and selling point inside Giat Market, people are bustling to choose and buy.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - a retailer said, starting from January 28, the price of poultry has increased; it is expected that the closer to Tet, the higher the price of this item will be.

Currently, the market price for wild roosters is 100,000 VND/kg; hens are 90,000 VND/kg (about 10,000 VND/kg higher than normal prices); ducks are 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg...

"From now until Tet, poultry prices will continue to increase according to the market. Chicken prices alone could reach 110,000 VND/kg on the 30th of Tet," said Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, a small trader.

Not only poultry prices increased, seafood products also "inched up" following the market. At large seafood markets in Quynh Luu district such as Son Hai, Tien Thuy, Quynh Nghia communes..., these products also began to increase in price. Specifically, fresh squid grade 1 costs 280,000 - 300,000 VND/kg, octopus costs 120,000 VND/kg... (increased from 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg depending on the type). Dried seafood prices also increased compared to normal days; such as dried squid grade 1 costs 1.6 million VND/kg (increased by 200,000 VND/kg); dried anchovies cost 150,000 VND (increased by 30,000 VND/kg)...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, a consumer in Hoang Mai town, said: “Compared to the time before Tet last year, this year the price of seafood has increased. The price of fresh seafood has increased from 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, and the price of dried seafood has increased from 50,000 - 100,000 VND/kg. However, dried seafood is chosen by many consumers during Tet, so everyone is willing to buy it.

In other localities such as Cua Lo town, Vinh city... the prices of seafood, roosters, beef... have also increased by 20% compared to normal days. These are the peak days for Tet shopping for people, so these items are priced well. The reason is that traders collect goods through many intermediaries before reaching consumers. Beef in Vinh costs 250,000 VND/kg, close to Tet it can increase to 270 - 280,000 VND/kg, large fresh shrimp costs 300,000 VND/kg, mackerel 260,000 VND/kg...
