Nghe An: Timely emergency treatment for 73 workers with food poisoning in Yen Thanh district
The poisoning incident occurred at MLB TENERGY Limited Company (Yen Thanh Town, Yen Thanh District). 73 workers suffered from food poisoning. After the poisoning occurred, all workers were given emergency treatment and timely treatment.
73 workers poisoned after lunch
On the afternoon of May 28, a food poisoning incident occurred at MLB TENERGY Limited Liability Company (located in Yen Thanh Town Industrial Park, Yen Thanh District). This is a Japanese garment company with 1,573 workers, divided into 2 production workshops.
The workers' lunch includes 5 dishes: Fried silver pomfret; stir-fried squash with bean sprouts; boiled eggs; vegetable soup; mango for dessert... The unit providing cooking ingredients for the kitchen of MLB TENERGY Limited Liability Company is Mac Anh Ha Private Enterprise (Hoa Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District).
During this lunch, MLB TENERGY Co., Ltd.'s kitchen served 1,416 meals. Workshop 1 had lunch at 11:15 a.m.; Workshop 2 had lunch at 11:55 a.m.
Thirty minutes after lunch, many workers began to experience food poisoning: headaches, numb hands, nausea, vomiting, stomachaches, red rashes... Immediately, the company and the Yen Thanh District Health Department and the workers' families took them to the emergency room at a medical facility.
As of 5:30 p.m. on May 28, 73 workers had been taken to medical facilities in the district for emergency treatment. Specifically, 18 workers were being treated at Bao Son General Hospital and 55 workers were being treated at Yen Thanh District General Hospital.
Immediately after receiving information about the food poisoning incident, Yen Thanh district leaders promptly reported it to the Nghe An Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department and the Nghe An Department of Health.
The Board of Directors of Nghe An Department of Health quickly consulted and assigned Pharmacist Tran Minh Tue - Deputy Director of the Department of Health as head of the working group to Yen Thanh to direct the emergency and treatment of the poisoned workers; assigned officers of the Nghe An Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department to investigate and clarify the cause of the poisoning.
At the same time, Nghe An Department of Health also sent an urgent dispatch to medical facilities, activating the entire emergency and treatment system; ready to transport, receive, provide emergency care and treatment for workers with food poisoning.

Accordingly, the Director of Nghe An Department of Health requested Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, and Bao Son General Hospitals to organize the reception, emergency care, treatment, and monitoring of food poisoning patients, to coordinate well in providing professional support, human resources, and promptly transport patients with severe food poisoning to higher-level medical facilities when beyond professional capacity. Review and prepare to arrange human resources, medicine, supplies, medical equipment, and hospital beds to the maximum extent to receive, handle, and treat food poisoning patients transferred.
Coordinate with the Food Safety and Hygiene Department, Yen Thanh District Medical Center to provide medical records, clinical and paraclinical test results and related information to serve the handling and investigation of food poisoning cases. Collect samples, preserve and hand over to the investigation unit to send for testing to determine the cause of food poisoning cases if necessary.
Nghe An General Hospital directs the emergency team to be ready to support Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Bao Son District General Hospitals and lower-level units if necessary under the direction of the Department of Health; directs the Department of Resuscitation and Anti-Poison and related departments to prepare plans, be ready to arrange human resources, medicine, supplies, and medical equipment to receive severe cases transferred from lower-level units.
General Hospital 115, Cua Dong is ready with vehicles to support patient transportation as soon as requested by the Department of Health. Ready to receive, provide emergency care, treat, and monitor the condition of individuals with food poisoning.
Yen Thanh District Medical Center, Dien Chau directed the Health Stations of communes/towns to be ready to receive suspected cases of food poisoning, especially patients who are workers of MLB TENERGY Limited Liability Company. Yen Thanh District Medical Center coordinated with the Food Safety Department to investigate the cause of the food poisoning incident.
The Food Safety and Hygiene Department organized an investigation, coordinated with the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district, the Health Department of Yen Thanh district and related units to direct the implementation of investigation activities, promptly handle and overcome the consequences of the food poisoning incident; implement a quick reporting regime, update information to the Department of Health; instruct MLB Tenergy Limited Liability Company to notify all employees who participated in the lunch on May 28, 2024 to immediately go to the nearest medical facility when there are unusual signs such as: Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea...
Information from Nghe An Department of Health: As of 6:00 p.m. on May 28, the majority of workers suffered from mild food poisoning; after treatment, they were stable and discharged home. Some workers vomited and had diarrhea, felt tired, and 4 pregnant workers were kept at the medical facility for monitoring and continued treatment.
