Nghe An held a rally in response to 'World No Tobacco Day May 31 and National No Tobacco Week May 25-31, 2024'
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 24, in Thai Hoa town, the Steering Committee for Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control of Nghe An province organized a rally to respond to "World No Tobacco Day May 31 and National No Tobacco Week May 25-31, 2024".

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Provincial Steering Committee for Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control, departments, branches; medical units in the province and a large number of people from all walks of life in Thai Hoa town.
At the ceremony, Pharmacist Tran Minh Tue - Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Steering Committee for Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control, Deputy Director of Nghe An Department of Health, clearly stated the goals of the National Strategy on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control to 2030 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 568/QD-TTg dated May 24, 2023.
Accordingly, the National Strategy on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms by 2030 has set a general goal of reducing the rate of tobacco use and the rate of passive exposure to tobacco smoke to reduce illness and death caused by the use of tobacco products.
During the period 2023 - 2025, reduce the rate of tobacco use among men aged 15 and over to below 39%; among women aged 15 and over to below 1.4%; reduce the rate of passive exposure to tobacco smoke at work to below 30%; at restaurants to below 75%, at bars and cafes to below 80%; at hotels to below 60%... prevent the use of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products, shisha and other new tobacco products in the community.

In order to practically and effectively implement the National Strategy on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control by 2030, speaking at the ceremony, pharmacist Tran Minh Tue emphasized: All levels, sectors and units continue to direct the integration of tobacco harm prevention and control activities into the movements "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas"; the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life"; and replicate models of smoke-free communes, wards, towns, agencies and units.
Include tobacco harm prevention in annual work plans; include regulations prohibiting smoking in the workplace in internal regulations of agencies and units; post no-smoking signs in places where smoking is prohibited according to the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention.
It is necessary to closely coordinate to promote propaganda about the harmful effects of tobacco with the goal of "for a smoke-free environment", "Protecting children from the impacts of the tobacco industry"; actively building a model of a no-tobacco environment in public places and families.

In the coming time, the Health Department of Nghe An province will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee, coordinate with relevant departments, branches and sectors to implement policies and laws on tobacco harm prevention and control; strengthen the leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels and inter-sectoral coordination; inspect, examine and handle violations; promote scientific research and improve the monitoring system.
Thereby, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the capacity of the network on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco; strengthening propaganda and dissemination activities on the harmful effects of tobacco, regulations of the Law on Prevention and Combating the Harmful Effects of Tobacco to all cadres, people, especially students at schools in the province.
Within the framework of the rally, the forces and people participating in the ceremony marched to propagate and disseminate information about the harmful effects of tobacco and the regulations of the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms in Thai Hoa town./.
