Nghe An: 7 more communes recorded African swine fever in one day

(Baonghean.vn) - On June 6, Nghe An recorded 7 new outbreaks of African swine fever in the districts of Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Nghi Loc, and Tuong Duong.

Tuong Duong district has epidemic

On the morning of June 7, Mr. Kha Van Ot - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, the People's Committee of the district announced the epidemic in Luong Minh commune. Accordingly, specialized agencies and local authorities carried out the work of preventing, combating and controlling African swine fever according to the district's scenario.

Previously, Mr. Xeo Van Tuan's herd of 5 pigs in Xop Chao village, Luong Minh commune got sick, the Veterinary Department took samples for testing.

Mr. Mai Van Hoang - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Tuong Duong district said: "On the evening of June 6, the veterinary agency and local authorities destroyed 5 pigs of Mr. Tuan's family. The station provided chemicals for the locality to spray disinfectants."

New outbreak appears in Do Luong

On June 7, the Do Luong District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station received test results of pig samples positive for African swine fever from the Veterinary Department of Region III.

Previously, on June 4, Mr. Nguyen Van Trac in Hamlet 10, Thuong Son Commune (Do Luong) reported to Do Luong Veterinary Station that among the 3 pigs his family was raising, a pig weighing 55 kg was sick, showing symptoms similar to African swine fever. Do Luong Veterinary Station came to check and took samples to send for testing.

On the afternoon of June 7, specialized agencies and local authorities carried out the destruction of Mr. Nguyen Van Trac's family's pigs, and at the same time, implemented many measures to disinfect, isolate, and block off the epidemic in accordance with regulations.

This is the second outbreak of swine fever detected in Do Luong district. Previously, an outbreak appeared in early April at the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa in Long Minh hamlet, Minh Son commune; the district People's Committee announced the end of the epidemic in early May.

Quynh Luu has 2 more communes with epidemic

Two more outbreaks of African swine fever have just appeared in Quynh Luu, occurring in Quynh Thach and Quynh Thanh communes.

In Quynh Thach commune, on June 4, Mr. Nguyen Sy Tuyet's family in hamlet 1 discovered 2 sick pigs, then reported to the local authorities. On the same day, the district veterinary force came to collect samples and destroyed the 2 pigs with a total weight of 70 kg. On the morning of June 6, the results of the samples taken from the sick pigs at Mr. Tuyet's household were positive for African swine fever.

Also during this time, the district veterinary force continued to take samples of sick pigs from a sow weighing 157 kg and 11 piglets following their mother at Mr. Van Minh Thu's household in hamlet 5, Quynh Thach commune, the results were positive for African swine fever.

After testing positive for African swine fever, the commune People's Committee held a meeting and developed plans for disease prevention. In addition to the 18 liters of chemicals provided by the district, the commune proactively purchased an additional 10 liters and 2.5 tons of lime powder to spray disinfectants and spread lime at pig farms in the epidemic area. In addition, the commune set up 2 quarantine checkpoints on the Thach - Thanh - Luong route and the point from National Highway 1A to Quynh Vien Cooperative (Hamlet 1 and Hamlet 2).

Quynh Thanh Commune is the latest locality in Quynh Luu District to have African swine fever. Previously, Mr. Phan Phuc's family in Hamlet 11, Quynh Thanh Commune reported that 2 sows with a total weight of nearly 200 kg were sick. Immediately after that, the Quynh Luu District Veterinary Department came to take samples and the results were positive for African swine fever.

Then, from June 5 to 6, two more households reported that Mr. Tran Nghiem's ​​family in Hamlet 11 reported that 2 sows weighing 1.6 quintals were sick, and Mr. Ho Tinh's family in Hamlet 3 reported that 1 sow weighing 64 kg and 11 piglets were also sick. The Quynh Luu District Veterinary Department has taken samples from the sick pigs and is awaiting results.

Thus, up to this point, Quynh Luu has recorded 8 outbreaks of African swine fever including: Son Hai, Quynh Luong, Quynh Bang, Quynh Hong, Quynh Hau, Quynh Van, Quynh Thach and Quynh Thanh.

Yen Thanh has the 7th outbreak

The 7th locality of Yen Thanh district to test positive for African swine fever is Minh Thanh commune, bordering Ly Thanh commune, where an outbreak previously occurred.

Mr. Tran Khanh Tung - Chairman of Minh Thanh Commune People's Committee said: The first outbreak in the commune occurred at Mr. Phan Phuc Nga's household in Hamlet 6. Mr. Nga's family had 7 pigs, weighing an average of 49 kg each, which were destroyed by veterinary agencies and local authorities on June 6.

Although the district People's Committee has not announced the epidemic, the commune has deployed 2 checkpoints, assigned forces to guard the checkpoints, and organized chemical spraying in hamlet 6 and pig farming households in the commune.

On June 6, the Veterinary Department of Region III also had positive results for African swine fever in Ly Thanh commune. Thus, Ly Thanh commune currently has 2 epidemic points.

Nghi Loc has 2 more communes with epidemics

On June 6 and 7, Nghi Loc district recorded two more communes with African swine fever, Nghi Long and Nghi Dien. The new outbreak appeared in Nghi Long commune at Mr. Hoang Cong Lam's household in hamlet 16.

Test results from the Veterinary Department of Region III on June 6 showed that the dead pig at Mr. Lam's house tested positive for African swine fever. The locality has destroyed 5 pigs including 1 sow and 4 piglets with a total weight of 179 kg.

Along with Nghi Long, on the morning of June 7, Nghi Dien commune, which has an old outbreak, also destroyed a herd of 15 pigs infected with African swine fever belonging to Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia's family in hamlet 11, with a total weight of 402 kg. This is the 8th outbreak in this locality. Previously, Nghi Dien commune had destroyed 22 pigs at 7 outbreak sites, with a total weight of 1,056 pigs.

Nghi Loc district currently has 11 communes with African swine fever: Nghi Hung, Nghi Cong Nam, Nghi Thuan, Nghi Hoa, Nghi Trung, Nghi Dien, Nghi Khanh, Nghi Van, Quan Hanh town, Nghi Thinh and Nghi Long.

As soon as the epidemic broke out, the commune set up 3 quarantine checkpoints around hamlet 16, adjacent to hamlets 14, 15 and Nghi Trung commune. In addition to 24 liters of chemicals provided by the district veterinary station, the commune bought 1 ton of lime to fight the epidemic. Currently, the total herd of pigs in the commune is just over 300. On June 7, the phenomenon of sick and dead pigs also occurred at the family of Mr. Nguyen Dao Trung, hamlet 8, and veterinary staff have taken samples for testing.

The 4th commune of Hung Nguyen has an epidemic.

On the morning of June 7, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Hung Nguyen district coordinated with local authorities to destroy a herd of 30 pigs, including 3 sows and 27 pigs weighing a total of 1.7 tons, belonging to Mr. Nguyen Van Hao's family in hamlet 3, Hung Chau commune, and simultaneously deployed synchronous measures to contain the epidemic.

Mr. Le Khanh Quang - Vice Chairman of Hung Chau Commune People's Committee said: Currently, the total herd of pigs in Hung Chau commune is 1,300. Although the herd is not large, it is mainly raised on a small scale in households. The commune bought more than 2 tons of lime to sprinkle on the roads in the whole commune.

On June 6, the commune received an additional 45 liters of chemicals to continue spraying disinfectants to prevent the spread of the epidemic; before the epidemic, the commune received 22 liters of chemicals from the district and sprayed disinfectants in the market area and livestock barns.

As of June 7, African swine fever has appeared in 11 hamlets and 4 communes of Hung Nguyen district, the total number of pigs destroyed has reached 349, weighing 1,1787 kg.

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, from March 13, 2019 to June 7, African swine fever occurred in 525 households in 172 hamlets of 83 communes, 16 districts and towns in the province. The total number of infected pigs destroyed was 2,246, with a total weight of 91,630 kg.

On June 6 alone, the epidemic broke out in 7 more communes: Minh Thanh (Yen Thanh); Quynh Thanh (Quynh Luu), Chieu Luu (Ky Son), Thuong Son (Do Luong), Luong Minh (Tuong Duong), Hung Chau (Hung Nguyen) and Nghi Long (Nghi Loc).
