Nghe An - Xieng Khouang agree on a plan to solve the problem of traffic congestion at Nam Can International Border Gate
(Baonghean.vn) - On October 10, the Interdisciplinary Delegation of Xieng Khouang Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Nghe An Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam held a bilateral conference to discuss and agree on a solution to the problem of traffic congestion of import and export vehicles through Nam Can International Border Gate.
Attending the conference, on behalf of Nghe An province, there was Colonel Nguyen Cong Luc - Member of the Executive Committee.Provincial Party Committee, Commander of Nghe An Provincial Border Guard, representatives of provincial departments, branches, Ky Son district and Nam Can International Border Gate Border Guard Station.
On the side of Xieng Khouang Provincial Delegation, there areColonel Chu-xong Chu-xay - DeputyDirector of CompanyXieng Khouang Provincial Police and representatives of relevant departments and branches.

The cause of traffic congestion at Nam Can international border gate is due to the sudden increase in the number of vehicles transporting iron ore from Xieng Khouang province and barite ore from Vientiane province transiting Vietnam to Cua Lo Port. According to statistics from the authorities at the border gate, there are an average of 250 - 300 trips of vehicles entering and exiting the border gate every day, along with the road infrastructure on both sides of Nam Can international border gate being narrow and degraded. Infrastructure and yards have not been invested to meet the needs of vehicles and goods gathering to wait for exit, entry and import procedures.
The distance from barrier 1 to barrier 2 on the Vietnamese side of the border gate is short (each time the number of vehicles entering the barrier to wait for procedures is only 12 - 15 vehicles). Equipment and machinery serving inspection and control work at the border gate are old and degraded...

To resolve the congestion, the authorities working at the border gates on both sides have proactively coordinated with transport businesses to find solutions such as pre-declaring customs; increasing working hours; proactively arranging working forces and vehicles; coordinating and exchanging information on weight scales... However, congestion still occurs.

Through the actual inspection and opinions expressed at the Conference, in the coming time, to resolve the traffic congestion, the two sides agreed to propose to the competent authorities of each side to soon deploy a survey and supplement the new planning of the border gate area in the direction of maximally expanding the scope of the border gate area, expanding the border market area but not affecting the border markers, investing funds to build infrastructure to ensure vehicles and goods are gathered waiting for each side's entry and exit procedures.

Along with that, the report recommends that the competent authority allow the movement of barrier No. 2 closer to the border gate area sign to extend the distance between barrier No. 1 and barrier No. 2. It is recommended that the competent authority invest in and upgrade National Highway 7 at both ends of the border gate to ensure that vehicles can stop and wait to enter the procedure area and other vehicles can move smoothly./.
